Well, the snow finally did make it into the Triad and Triangle regions, although many amounts were on the light side. When the detailed snow maps are out, we will take a look at the good, bad, and ugly and see what we can learn from this system.

Speaking of maps, here is the model-derived precip totals from the Raleigh NWS. The normal, more accurate maps will probably be out tomorrow.

Many areas wound up with significant freezing rain yesterday evening into last night, and the freezing mist continued this morning. Most spots across the Piedmont have a layer of ice on top of all surfaces, except the DoT crews have done a fantastic job getting the main roads drivable.

It is going to remain cold all work week long with 30s for highs and 10s for lows. I think it is within the realm of possibility a few spots in the Piedmont could see single digits for lows Friday morning.

Temps will moderate this weekend with 40s returning for highs.

The next system swings in early next week. At this point, I am leaning toward that one being of the liquid variety, but I have frankly spent very little time analyzing that one to this point.

I want to thank each and every one of you for stopping by the blog. It is incredibly humbling that you folks would care to know what I have to say. I greatly appreciate it! Let's keep watching the weather together!

Thanks Matt! So, what are your thoughts for the remainder of January?

Matthew, at this point I think several businesses and workers are getting a little worried with this bad weather and having to close. I like snow as much as the nest person, but at the same time this is starting to become detrimental to the local economy and people's livelyhood for a paycheck. Lets hope we dont get any more storms for a little bit!!! Just trying to be realistic about this. Frustrates me that everyone wants snow all the time when in reality a lot of times people can't work because the businesses are forced to shut down.

Hey. You provide such fantastic information and give in-depth analysis of every storm that threatens to bring wintry precipitation. It is a pleasure to stop by your blog and see your thoughts on something. Keep up the good work East! You and Jeff Crum know how to handle weather forecasting like true pros. :)

Matt, any chance of that precip up north coming into the triangle tonight?

I really enjoy you're analysis of the synoptic set-ups. Most t.v. meteorologists only have 2 1/2 minutes of time to get their forecasts delivered on t.v. and you go out of you're way online to teach. I really appreciate you're time and effort. It's also nice to hear people like yourself that isn't afraid to share Christian faith with others in this politically correct society. I love snow and hated we didn't get more in Raleigh, but, glad others South that wanted it, got theirs' and it looks like we have lots of winter fun ahead of us, looking at the models.

Thanks so much for all of the kind words and comments. It really means a lot.

As to the future weather, take a look at today's video...I get into that.

I understand about the weather impacting people in a negative way, in more ways than one. Good news is things should get back to normal over the next couple of days for most. I understand the frustration for sure though.
