Uh oh...

Quite a few computer models are now indicating the subtropical high to the north of Helene will re-build next week and send the hurricane on a path that could threaten the east coast of the US. That possibility has always existed in my mind, but it did seem pretty unlikely.

Too early for any knee-jerk reactions, but it is interesting nonetheless.

Another great start to the day out there with upper 50s in many spots. Many mountain locations again dipped into the 40s this morning.

Highs today will be in the lower 80s with highs tomorrow in the mid 80s. Humidity values remain pleasant.

Our next cold front is raising a ruckus today. Check this out...

Severe weather looking likely there in the Plains, especially parts of Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota, and Minnesota.

That cold front will steadily progress our way and move through here early Tuesday. I still think we will see a good deal of showers and storms from later Monday night into Tuesday, and some of those storms could wind up being strong to severe. We will watch it...

Nice airmass Wednesday through Saturday next week with lows of sun, highs mainly in the 70s, lows mainly in the 50s, and very nice levels of humidity. I still think a few spots around the viewing area could see their first upper 40s for lows later next week.

Tropics...
Gordon is stationary and weakening in the central Atlantic. Helene is about to become a hurricane, and the road looks paved to major hurricane intensity. Fortunately, it appears likely the system will re-curve in the Atlantic and not affect the US.

Great football today. Especially looking forward to watching Auburn-LSU, Tennessee-Florida, Nebraska-USC, and Notre Dame-Michigan.....great stuff. And, my Mississippi State Bulldogs host Tulane this evening...will be listening to radio coverage over the internet to that one...

Have a great Saturday. Enjoy that great weather!

Beautiful stuff out there this morning....there was a nice nip in the air, and it sure felt refreshing. Boone got down into the mid 40s!

Weekend will be great with lots of sun, lows in the mid to upper 50s, and highs in the low to mid 80s. Humidity values will be pleasant as well.

Sharp cold front moves through Tuesday. Some strong storms could be involved, and we will watch that potential as it approaches. Behind that front, a nice shot of cooler air pushes in with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s. I still think some communities could dip into the upper 40s by the end of next week!

In the tropics, Gordon continues to weaken as it moves across progressively cooler waters and will not threaten land.

Helene is getting better organized in terms of its structure, and we should see the system strengthen through early next work week. The most likely scenario remains that it will re-curve, but the NOGAPS model actually shows a bend back toward the west next week. So, the re-curve idea is certainly not set in stone.

I have mentioned in this space before that I really enjoy days like today. There is just something about a cool, rainy day that I enjoy. Now, I love sunny and 72 degrees just as much as the next guy, but days like this have a nice "feel" to me.

It is indeed cool and rainy. Most spots have seen rain all day and will continue to see rain into the night. Temps are hovering in the low to mid 60s.

Drier air pushes in tomorrow, and that will set the stage for beautiful weekend weather.

Down the road a bit, I am beginning to get the idea that we might see a pretty decent shot of cooler air in here by the end of next week. Seeing the 0 degree line at 850mb dipping into the Ohio Valley on some modeling gets me fired up. Bring on cold weather!

However, I am ready to enjoy the fall season. I love observing the fall foliage, and I will make my annual "fall foliage trip" up to the mountains for a day or two next month. I will probably drive up there a couple of times next month if time allows. I absolutely love it.

Tropics are active. Gordon could become a major hurricane over the next 24 hours, but it will continue to re-curve in the Atlantic and only threaten shipping lanes. TD 8 is rather broad and disorganized, but it should consolidate and strengthen through the weekend. That system has re-curve written all over it, but I won't write it off yet just in case. And what is left of Florence is battering the Canadian maritimes this afternoon....still a lot of punch left with that system.

Stay dry, slow it down on the roadways, and have a great evening...

No words I can say would do justice to all of the events involved with September 11, 2001. All I can say is that my prayers and thoughts continue to be with those that lost loved ones on that day, with those that have lost or are separated from their loved ones fighting the War on Terror, and with our country. God bless you all...

Florence is approaching Bermuda. The next 12-24 hours will certainly be lousy weather-wise in Bermuda, but I don't think this will be a devastating hurricane.

And, TD 7 has formed this evening. Most models don't "see" the system yet, so the forecast track is very uncertain.
