Race Weekend
>> Saturday, May 26, 2007
As you well know, this is race weekend at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Last weekend featured the All-Star festivities, but this weekend's activities are crowned by the Coca-Cola 600 tomorrow evening. The weather will be great for the Busch race tonight and the 600 tomorrow evening.
Growing up in Alabama, I have gone to many races at Talladega. My family used to go to every race...spring and fall, and always sat on the first row right at the entrance to pit road. Obviously you couldn't see any of the track except the part right in front of you, but let me tell you....that is the way to experience a race with the cars racing by at close to 200mph less than ten feet in front of you. I was there when Bobby Allison had his horrific crash, rolling down the fence in the tri-oval....his tire blew right in front of us. I have a piece of Richard Petty's engine block that flew over the fence when he had a bad wreck there one time. I was at the qualifying when Bill Elliott set the stock-car speed record at over 212mph.
I have never been to a race at Lowe's Motor Speedway. But that will change tomorrow night. I am thankful to have the opportunity to attend the Coca-Cola 600. What a thrill that will be. I have never seen a night race, and boy...the Coca-Cola 600 is such a great race. I am very excited.
At any rate, I apologize for the lack of posts recently. I have had a lot of irons in the fire of late, and that combined with the very quiet weather has led to the lack of posts. Don't worry...as we get into hurricane season, I am sure the posts will be fast and furious!
