Friday Evening...

Happy to report that I think I am finally really on the way back from this flu bug. It has been a fight that has lasted over a week, but I can feel myself coming out of it a bit now. Hopefully, no more surprise flare-ups waiting in the wings....

The upcoming weekend will be fantastic. Highs in many spots will be in the 60s both days with lots of sunshine.

I will probably be cutting a new Ski Video for SkiNC and SkiSoutheast late tonight, and the weather and the conditions should be fantastic to hit the slopes. The ski conditions are looking really nice after all of the natural snow and manmade snow this week.

I am still working on the details of our Tuesday system. It still looks just as dynamic as I mentioned yesterday. The potential is there for a good soaking rain for much of the region. The potential is also there for some severe weather in the Carolinas Tuesday. And, while a few wrap-around flakes will be possible, it looks like the upper air low will track a bit too far westward for the Piedmont of North Carolina to see much in the way of accumulating snow. However, like I mentioned yesterday, someone will get a dumping of snow out of this. That somewhere could be Nashville or St. Louis or somewhere in the Appalachians.

And yes, I have seen the GFS spitting out some snow for us next Friday. The possibility looks interesting, but the European has a different solution. Also, any details with that system will be difficult to resolve until the big Tuesday system wraps itself up.

Everyone enjoy the weekend!

Thursday Evening...

Just when you think you are recovering from this flu, it comes back and smacks you in the face. Last night, my temp shot back up to 102, and I was as miserable then as I was over the weekend. I struggled through this morning, but I have been trying to slowly recover today. I tell you...this thing is nasty.

I wanted to put up a quick post about our Monday night / Tuesday system. To say that system is complex is an understatement. We are dealing with a closed 500mb low, closed 850mb low, and a rapidly deepening surface low, becoming occluded. With that type of set-up, someone is going to get dumped on with snow.

As it stands with the modeling this evening, the highest potential for accumulating snow looks to stay from the mountains westward....just some wrap-around stuff here. But, we will see how this system trends.

Something else I need to mention is that this system has the potential to produce a big severe weather event in the Deep South and possibly up into portions of the Carolinas. Very dynamic system....

Slowly coming back....

>> Wednesday, February 27, 2008

Well, I went down pretty hard with the flu late Friday, and I was down and out for the past four days. I am slowly recovering, and so is my wife. The kids all seem fine now. I am back at work today, but minus about 2/3rds of my normal vocal range.

Nice mountain snows continuing today, and we have even seen some passing flurries here in the Piedmont. Cold through tomorrow with highs in the 40s today and tomorrow. Lows tonight will be in the lower 20s to even upper teens in some spots.

A weak system could bring a shower later Friday or Friday night, but then the weekend will be dry with highs back in the 50s.

Another storm system will move through Monday into Tuesday. The GFS continues to flirt with the idea of something wintry involved with that system somewhere in the Carolinas. We will see. I am really just climbing back into the world today....
