Improvement ahead...

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video.

It was a soggy, rainy night around the Carolinas, and we will continue to have the chance of showers at times today. Highs will be in the low to mid 70s around the Piedmont.

Improving conditions will then settle in for the weekend. I can't rule out an isolated afternoon shower or storm tomorrow or Sunday afternoon, but most spots should remain dry. Highs tomorrow will be close to 80 with highs Sunday in the mid to upper 80s.

Next work week looks very summer-like. Look for warm, muggy conditions with a daily chance of some afternoon showers or storms.

Enjoy your weekend!

Active weather....

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video.

Well, Wednesday certainly turned out to be busy around the Triad region. Hail, wind damage, and flash flooding were all problems in various locations. In fact, radar estimates that over 6-7" of rain might have occurred in portions of Guilford county!

A big thanks to all of you who submitted you photos from yesterday's storms....if you have more pictures to send, drop an email to weather@news14.com

Today will be an active day around the Carolinas with lots of showers and storms around the region. The airmass is moistue-laden, and again we will see soem heavy amounts of rain with some of the storms. A few strong to severe storms are also possible...damaging winds and large hail will be the main threats.

The chance of showers and storms at times will continue tonight, tomorrow, and even into portions of tomorrow night. Many spots could easily pick up another couple of inches of rain, and soem localized spots could see much more than that.

Over the weekend, I will maintain a chance of some scattered storms, but the activity should be much more hit and miss than what we will see today and tomorrow. Highs will return to the 80s at least by Sunday with highs around 90 by Monday.

Another warm one...

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video.

Such a tragedy with Air France 447. My prayers are with the families and friends impacted. Tropical thunderstorms likely played at least some role in the cause of the crash...for an excellent write-up about the specific weather conditions the flight encountered, read this article.

Today will be another warm and steamy day with Piedmont highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s once again. Just like yesterday, a handful of isolated showers or storms will likely fire this afternoon, but the chance of rain in any one spot today remains very small.

However, a frontal zone, which has been a focus for lots of shower and storm activity this week off to our north, will finally slide into our area tomorrow. That will result in a good chance of showers and storms tomorrow, and I can't rule out a couple of strong to severe storms.

It looks like that front will push just to our south by Friday as a low pressure slides along it. That will result in good rain chances Friday along with cooler temps.

The weekend forecast is still a bit uncertain, but it looks like the widespread rain and storm chances will try to push east of here as highs return to the 80s.

The first few days of next work week look warm and humid with a chance of some scattered PM storms.

Hot Tuesday...

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video.

A hot and steamy day today around the Carolinas with highs in the low 90s and a muggier airmass than what we saw yesterday. Some folks could even see mid 90s. The air quality is also deteriorating, and today is a Code Orange day in the Triad and Charlotte regions.

There is a small chance of a late day shower in the Piedmont, but the chance of rain today in any one spot is very small.

Tomorrow will still be fairly hot with highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s and a chance of some isolated PM showers or storms.

We will see much better shower and storm chances Thursday as a front drops in here from the north. Highs will back down into the upper 70s to lower 80s as well. That front should be to our south Friday, but we will continue to have a chance of rain with highs in the 70s.

The weekend forecast is tricky. I have gone ahead and put in the chance of some scattered mainly afternoon showers and storms Saturday and Sunday, but how great that rain chance is remains a question.

As those of you that have read my blog know, I am a big sports fan. And there are few things in sports better than the Stanley Cup Playoffs. I have been a Red Wings fan for many years, so I am obviously enjoying the playoffs greatly again this year.... the Wings are up two games to none on the Penguins.

For people who like sports, but haven't necessarily been exposed a great deal to hockey, it is really sports in its purest form. You don't have a lot of the egos in play, guys give it every ounce of effort on every shift, and the amount of toughness and teamwork required for a hockey team to be elite is astounding. It really is a fluid, fast-moving, hard-hitting, beautiful game when played at a high level.

I encourage you to watch Game 3 tonight if you enjoy spots....

Enjoy the day, but stay cool!

Warmth builds...

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video.

The weather over the weekend was pretty nice with lots of sun and warm afternoon temps. I especially enjoyed Saturday morning...man, that was nice!

Today we will again see lots of sunshine with highs in the mid to upper 80s around the Piedmont. A few isolated storms can't be ruled out, especially just to the south and east of the Charlotte region.

The heat will really crank tomorrow and Wednesday with lows 90s for highs.

A cold front, currently well off to our northwest, will gradually sag in here later this week. That will likely lead to good chances for showers and storms Thursday and Friday. Some modeling is indicating Friday as a rainy, relatively chilly kind of day.

For the weekend, the best chances of showers and storms will begin to shift east of the region.

On another note, we are not huge drinkers of carbonated beverages....I like them, but normally we go with tea or water at home. At any rate, I want to mention that Pepsi Throwback is quite good. It is made with natural sugar instead of corn syrup, and it has a great, natural taste to it.

No, I am not getting anything out of PepsiCo for this....just wanted to share what I thought was a good product. They are only planning on distributing this product for a limited time, so give it a look....
