Here is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video. Record highs in jeopardy today, a good Saturday forecast, and some changes next week. I also take a look at the latest drought index that was released yesterday.
Some record highs are in danger this afternoon. Here are some select record highs for today:
Raleigh: 75
Greensboro: 71
Charlotte: 78
Asheville: 72
GSP: 73
It is within the realm of possibility that any of those records could be tied or broken. The most likely candidates are Greensboro and GSP.
Tomorrow will be nice with 60s to near 70 for highs and lots of sun. Winds will kick up out of the northwest, and humidities will be low...so the fire danger will ramp up again.
A bit cooler for Sunday, but then back up toward the 70s Monday. Still a limited chance for a shower or two Monday night into early Tuesday, but nothing that will aid in drought-relief.
Cooler Tuesday and Wednesday before a better chance for some rain arrives around Friday.
Take a look at today's video...a take a peek at the longer range near the end of the video.

The warming trend continues today with highs well up into the 60s across the Piedmont...even lower 70s in some spots. Most folks should top 70 tomorrow, and some record highs will likely be challenged.
The weekend looks nice....mild afternoons and dry conditions.
I have gone ahead and thrown some shower chances in the forecast for Monday night into Tuesday morning...looks like that next low might track just enough south to bump up the shower chances a bit.
It does look cooler behind that system now....the 0z GFS went nuts with the cold....probably overdone. But highs will likely return at least to near average by mid-week.
Lots of very cold air looks to build in Canada as we near the end of the month....that will likely drop south at some point down the road, but where and when are still TBD.
After a warm and breezy Monday, highs today will be 10-15 degrees cooler, and not as breezy. Here is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video...
Many highs hit the lower 70s yesterday across the region. The reason highs soared above most forecasts is dowsloping winds. I mentioned yesterday morning that this could be an issue, and indeed it was.
Wildfires also became a problem in several locations...but winds today will be much lighter.
Highs today will be 10-15 degrees cooler than yesterday for most. We will see sunshine with high clouds. Upper 50s and lower 60s are on tap tomorrow.
Highs will warm well up into the 60s again this weekend with 70s again Friday.
A bit of a cool-down for the weekend with some low to mid 60s.
Drought...
We could really use some good, soaking rains. Unfortunately, I see little chance of that for the next week or so. A couple of systems will scoot by to our north, but nothing that will bring any good rains.
Here is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video.
Breezy conditions will settle in for this Valentine's Day. We will see lots of sunshine with highs well up into the 60s, but west and southwest winds will gust in excess of 35 or 40mph at times....and even higher in the mountains.
The fire danger is pretty high today with drought conditions in place and the gusty winds factored in. So, avoid any outdoor burning.;
We will cool into the 50s for highs tomorrow, but by Thursday highs will be well into the 60s again, and I think most spots top 70 by Friday.
A little short on time, but see the video for some thoughts further down the road....
If you liked yesterday, you will love today. We will see lots of sunshine with Piedmont highs up toward the lower 60s in most places. It will be a touch breezy though, with winds out of the west kicking up a bit. With the drought conditions worsening, that means the fire danger is pretty high today around the region, so I would avoid outdoor burning.
The upcoming week still looks quiet and mild overall. Highs tomorrow should be well up into the 60s. The warm-up will be blunted a bit Tuesday and Wednesday with many highs in the 50s (still not bad...picture yesterday), but we will return to readings well up into the 60s by the end of the week, and I still like the chance of some 70+ readings before the entire week is out.
Still trying to get a good handle on where we go from here....still don't have a good feeling about anything beyond this week just yet.
