Hot and humid...

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video.

The heat continues to build into the Carolinas today, and Piedmont highs will surge into the low to mid 90s. We should see lots of sun for most of the day. Late this afternoon and this evening, we could catch the tail-end of a complex of storms that began the day in Illinois and Ohio. That could lead to a few late day showers or storms, and what storms manage to develop could be severe.

Tomorrow will likely be a few clicks hotter with mid to even some upper 90s around the region. Heat index values will likely eclipse the century mark tomorrow afternoon. As a cold front approaches from the north, we again could see a few late day storms.

Behind that front, the heat begins to break for Father's Day with highs close to 90. Highs Monday through Wednesday look to mainly be in the 80s.

Stay cool the next couple of days. Check on the elderly, children, and those without air conditioning, and remember to have plenty of fresh cold water for the pets.

Here comes the heat...

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video.

Showers and storms developed in portions of the region overnight, and heavy rain occurred in some spots. Especially hard hit was Randolph county where 4-6 inches of rain fell in the central and southern part of the county.

The heat begins to build today with highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s around the region. A few showers and storms will likely fire off this afternoon and evening, and some of the storms could be severe. We will watch that closely.

Highs tomorrow will warm into the low to mid 90s with mid 90s again on Saturday. Both days will feature a good bit of sun and the chance of just a few isolated PM storms.

The heat will back down for next week with highs back in the 80s Monday through Thursday.

Some incredible video here from a storm chaser in Aurora, Nebraska yesterday. He was far too close to the tornado to remain safe, but the video is something.

More showers and storms...

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video.

Active weather yesterday in portions of the Carolinas. From some serious flooding in the Raleigh area yesterday morning to a powerhouse storm that caused a potential tornado in Cleveland county yesterday afternoon, it was an active day for the region.

For today, we will continue to have the opportunity for scattered showers and storms. The wedge we had in place will slowly erode today, and highs will range from the mid to upper 70s in the Triad to the lower 80s in the Charlotte region.

Again today, some of the storms could be locally strong to severe today, and we will watch that.

Tomorrow, we will begin the transition to a drier, much hotter pattern. There could still be a few storms tomorrow afternoon, but afternoon highs will surge toward the lower 90s.

Both Friday and Saturday look primarily dry, and heat will be our big weather story as highs warm into the mid 90s....even some upper 90s look possible in some spots.

Highs look to ease back down into the 80s as we head into next work week.

A reminder...keep those viewer photos coming.... weather@news14.com And be sure to scroll just below to see some shots of the flooding yesterday morning in Raleigh.

Also, here is an image I captured off of the radar as that big Cleveland county storm was occurring.

Cooler with lots of showers today

>> Tuesday, June 16, 2009

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video.

A cooler airmass is wedging into the area from the northeast today, and highs will only be in the 70s for most Piedmont locations. Showers with embedded storms will highlight the forecast. A few isolated severe storms are possible, and some additional flash flooding issues will be possible.

Shower chances continue tonight with lows in the low to mid 60s.

There is a big complex of storms in the Plains this morning, and it looks like that could track toward our area tomorrow, enhancing our chance of showers and storms. Highs tomorrow will range from the mid 70s to the lower 80s around the Piedmont.

It will get downright hot by the end of the week with highs up into the mid 90s Friday and Saturday.

Highs look to back down into the upper 80s again by early next week with a chance of PM storms returning.

Unsettled weather...

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video.

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

After only seeing some widely scattered showers and storms over the weekend, much better shower and storm chances are with us today. Some of the storms this afternoon could be locally strong to severe. Damaging winds and some hail could accompany some frequent lightning anf briefly heavy rain. Highs today will be in the mid to possibly upper 80s.

Tonight, unlike most recent nights, I expect the rain to expand in coverage. So, it looks like a night with areas of rain and embedded storms with lows in the mid to upper 60s.

High pressure will wedge down the eastern side of the mountains tomorrow and set up a June edition of one of our Carolina wedges. That will likely mean highs in the 70s with showers and a few embedded storms.

As the week wears on, we will warm things back up. I will keep the chance of showers and storms going Wednesday with a few PM storms possible Thursday with highs in the mid 80s.

By Friday and Saturday highs will soar into the 90s with a mainly dry forecast.
