Warmth building in...

>> Friday, May 20, 2011

There has been a little light rain in parts of the southern Piedmont this morning, and there will be the chance of a few isolated showers or storms this afternoon. Otherwise, the big weather story is the warming trend.

The significant warming trend will continue to unfold for us over the weekend. Highs today will be in the lower 80s, then mid to maybe upper 80s tomorrow and upper 80s to near 90 Sunday. Saturday should be completely dry, but a few afternoon storms are possible Sunday.

It will be down-right Summer-like for much of next week with lots of highs in the lower 90s and lows in the 60s. It will be relatively humid as well, and I can't rule out one or two pop-up storms on a daily basis. Better storm chances will likely hold off until late Thursday or Friday.

Warming trend continues...

>> Thursday, May 19, 2011

A big-time warming trend will continue in coming days. Highs today will be well up into the 70s across the region with lower 80s as soon as tomorrow. Highs will make a run at 90 by Sunday, and I think lower 90s are fully possible the first few days of next work week.

Only a limited number of isolated showers or storms are possible today and tomorrow, and then as we get into early next week, some pop-up afternoon storms will develop in the heating of the day.

Our next major storm system will likely not get here until Thursday or Friday of next week.

Fewer showers and storms...

>> Wednesday, May 18, 2011

The sluggish low pressure area that has been our main weather player for the past couple of days is beginning the process of slowly crawling north and out of the region. This will mean fewer showers and storms the next couple of days compared to what we have experienced to start this work week.

As the low pulls away, it will also pave the way for warmer temps. Highs will be well up into the 70s tomorrow, lower 80s Friday, then mid to upper 80s over the weekend.

Cool, showery conditions...

>> Tuesday, May 17, 2011

It was a very wet night in parts of the area....especially around the Charlotte metro. As of 5:30am, some areas were approaching 3" of rain since yesterday evening.

A slow-moving low pressure area continues to impact the region. While it will not rain all day, there will be showers and embedded storms at times for especially the I-85 corridor on up through the foothills and mountains.

This low pressure area will be very slow to pull away from the region. Tomorrow will likely still feature a lot of clouds and some scattered showers. However, a big-time warm-up is on the way with highs by this weekend warming up into the mid to upper 80s.

Some spots might even clip 90 by early next week....

Slow-moving system settling in...

>> Monday, May 16, 2011

A slow-moving area of low pressure will settle into the Carolinas today, and it will play a role in our weather right through mid-week. Look for scattered showers and storms today, then (for the I-85 corridor up through the foothills and mountains) look for periods of rain tonight into Wednesday.
