Quick Saturday Hit...

>> Saturday, June 16, 2007

Well, UNC came back and beat my Bulldogs last night in the College World Series opening round. But, I know there is no give-up in that team, and they will battle hard against a very good Louisville team in an elimination tomorrow afternoon.

We had a few active storms this afternoon. Some wind damage even occurred in Cleveland county include a home being blown from its foundation in the community of Lattimore in the western part of the county.

Heat returns for Father's Day with low 90s on the way and mid 90s return for Monday.

Game Time

>> Friday, June 15, 2007

Well, it is almost time for Mississippi State to rumble with North Carolina in the College World Series. I have been nervous and excited all day...as I have mentioned before, I am not just a casual fan of the Bulldogs. I will hang on every pitch tonight, and I will scream, yell, stomp, and whatever else it takes.

My colleague, News 14 Carolina reporter Brad Broders, is a UNC alumnus. We have been talking about this game all week, and we are ready to go.

In terms of the weather, how about that cloudy and cool day today! Many spots were in the 60s for the bulk of the afternoon. The official high at the Charlotte airport was 71, while the PTI airport topped out at 68.

More scattered storms tomorrow, then back to sunshine, dry weather, and heat for Father's Day.

Another Active Day...

>> Thursday, June 14, 2007

Well, it was another active day today, at least for a little while. Mecklenburg and Union counties went under severe thunderstorm warnings, and wall-to-wall coverage was required for a while.

As the warning for Mecklenburg county was issued, I was standing in front of the weather wall, just seconds before I was to hit the air live. Our cameras here at News 14 Carolina are robotic cameras, and as we are in the final seconds before I am set to hit the air, I see something strange indeed. I see the camera begin to spin around in circles...first one way, then the other. For the moment, we just disconnected the robotic controls and manually pointed the camera at the wall for me to get on the air. The robotic problem was later fixed when a break in the weather coverage was occurring. Evidently, one of the computers that we use to control the cameras had an issue....all is well now though. Gotta love television!

Periodic showers, as well as some rumbles of thunder, will be possible tonight and tomorrow. Enjoy the highs in the 70s tomorrow because we are back up into the lower 90s much of next week. And, it sure has been good to get the rain this week.

And finally, the reason for the birthday cake picture at the top is that today is News 14 Carolina Charlotte's 5th birthday! I have been along for the ride for about the past two years, and I can honestly say it is a fun way to do TV. It is very nice to be able to provide you, the viewer, with the level of coverage you deserve; be it weather or any other breaking news. We sincerely thank you for trusting us and inviting us into your homes. Here's to the next 5 years!
