The post below still applies, but it does look like we will have a good number of scattered showers and storms this evening. But it looks like due to the less favorable environment for storms, they don't look like they will be able to stay severe for any great lengths of time. So, some severe weather will likely occur, but the storms will likely only be able to stay severe for about 20 minutes or so before collapsing.

Saturday Evening

Storms have fired in the mountains this afternoon, but so far, the activity has mostly fallen apart here in the Piedmont. I suspect we have a layer of warmer air aloft in place today, making the overall setup a little less favorable for storms than recent afternoons. You could notice it while looking up at the cumulus clouds this afternoon...they just didn't explode upward into the atmosphere as quickly and efficiently as they have Thursday and Friday.

With that said, I still think some showers and storms will be with us this evening, and some could linger through the night. I just think the overall coverage and intensity will be less than the past couple of days. Good news for my kids...they are attending two separate birthday parties this afternoon...both of which are outside. I am not sure when the point was that my 5 year old got a busier social calender that me....

The weather tomorrow still looks active, especially from later in the afternoon through the evening. I expect a healthy round of showers and storms to push through, and with some weak dynamics aloft coming into play, quite a few storms tomorrow afternoon and evening could be severe.

More Scattered Storms...

**The above images do not auto-update...please select from the radars down the right side of the page for updated radar data.**

We are looking at another afternoon and evening of scattered showers and storms. Just like we saw yesterday, some of the storms could pack a punch and be locally strong to severe. We will keep you up to date on News 14 Carolina.

Tomorrow looks much the same...hot with highs in the 90s and scattered afternoon and evening showers and storms.

A stronger cold front is will poised to approach our region Sunday, and I am still anticipating a nice round of showers and storms later Sunday and Sunday evening.

Behind that front, a cooler, drier airmass will settle in by Monday night and last through mid-week. In fact, it sure looks like we could see some upper 50s for lows Tuesday and/or Wednesday next week.

Hot Afternoon...Eyeing Sunday.....

>> Thursday, June 26, 2008

Temps have soared up into the 90s this afternoon, and let me tell you....you can feel every single degree when your A/C doesn't work in your car....ugh.

Looks like a few showers and storms could drift down from the mountains into portions of the western and northwestern Piedmont. The most likely candidates in the Triad and Charlotte viewing areas look to be Surry, Yadkin, Stokes, Iredell, Cleveland, Gaston, and York (from storms firing in the upstate of South Carolina).

A few afternoon storm look likely tomorrow and Saturday, but Sunday looks like it is shaping up to be the most active day. A pretty strong cold front will approach and kick off numerous showers and storms as Sunday unfolds. The SPC has outlined much of the region in the Day 4 severe weather outlook.

Wednesday...

The weather will be hot and dry for us today and tomorrow with highs up toward the mid 90s. One thing that will keep it tolerable out there is fairly low levels of humidity during the afternoon hours....so mid 90s could feel a lot worse that it will around here today and tomorrow.

Don't look now, but it might very well be another active weather weekend ahead. Both Saturday and Sunday look to feature good chance of some showers and storms, and is almost always the case this time of year, some of those storms could be strong to severe.

On another note, we made the switch a little less than a year ago to a new Sunday school class at church. It is what we call a family-integrated, or age-integrated, Sunday school class. At the time, it was a new concept for me, but it has been a tremendous blessing. The make-up of this class is very interesting...anything from small children up through folks in their 40s or more. The kids have learned from the adults, but I have to say, one of the neatest things it to watch the adults learn from the kids as well. It is very neat to have children involved, answering and asking questions....it often times lets us adults see things from a much different point of view than we otherwise would have.

At any rate, I will be teaching the class for the first time this Sunday. I am excited about it, but I am also pretty nervous. The other guys that teach the class do such an incredible job...I will just try to not make everyone dumber for the experience. But again, I am excited to get up there and give it a shot.
