Warming trend...

>> Friday, April 13, 2012

After a frosty start for many in the region, it will be a bit milder today than yesterday with some upper 60s for a lot of our highs. Highs tomorrow will be in the 70s, then look for highs close to 80 or so Sunday. Highs Monday will be up into the 80s.

Our next chance of showers and storms will not arrive until Tuesday into early Wednesday.

While we enjoy very nice and quiet weekend weather, it looks like a very rough day tomorrow for our friends in parts of the Plains states. A rare 'high' risk for Day 2 (you only get a couple of 'high' risks a year for Day 1) is out for a narrow corridor of Oklahoma and Kansas for the possibility of a nasty outbreak of severe weather tomorrow afternoon and evening.

Cold morning! But warmer weather ahead...

>> Thursday, April 12, 2012

Brrr. Definitely cold out there this morning with lots of low and mid 30s on the board...even some upper 20s in some spots. We will see a sunny sky today with low and mid 60s for highs.

Lows tonight will again make a run at the 30s for many, but most spots should be about 5 degrees warmer than this morning. Highs tomorrow will head into the mid and upper 60s.

A big warm-up is still on the way this weekend with some 70s Saturday and lower 80s for many spots Sunday.

It still looks like Tuesday night or Wednesday before we see out next chance of a shower or storm.

Much cooler....frost and freeze potential tonight...

>> Wednesday, April 11, 2012

It will be a much cooler day today than what we have seen recently with highs in the Piedmont and foothills in the mid 50s to around 60. Add in a gusty northwest wind, and it will feel much cooler.

Tonight will be cold. If the wind were to go calm, I would expect a lot of 20s on the board tomorrow morning. However, it looks like the wind, while not terribly significant, will likely not go calm for any extended period of time tonight. Due to that, it looks like a lot of low and mid 30s tonight. Obviously, that would mean some sub-freezing temps in some areas....especially the traditionally colder spots.

A big warm-up will unfold as we head into the weekend with highs in the 70s Saturday and up into the 80s in many spots Sunday.

It still looks like we are about a week away from our next chance at a decent storm system, and event that is fairly sketchy on some modeling.

Here is today's edition of the video...

Highs today will again be in the 70s across the region. It will also be pretty breezy, and when you combine the breeziness with low humidities and dry ground conditions, you get a recipe for increase wildfire danger. So avoid outdoor burning today.

Highs tomorrow will be much cooler than today with some 50s around the Triad and at best near 60 for Charlotte and Raleigh.

Some areas will dip into the 30s tonight, but most folks will be there by Thursday morning and probably Friday morning. Thursday morning, we might even have a few spots dip below freezing.

A big warm-up is on the way this weekend into early next week with some 80s returning for highs by Sunday or Monday.

Here is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video...

After some fantastic Easter weekend weather, we will keep the nice weather going today with sunshine and highs in the 70s. Lows will drop into the 40s tonight.

Another shot of chillier air is on the way behind a cold front that will slide through over the next 24+ hours. It will still be pretty mild tomorrow due to downsloping winds out of the mountains, but by Wednesday morning, a lot of folks will likely have some lows below 40 again.

Highs Wednesday will likely be shy of 60 in some foothill and Piedmont spots, and then lows Thursday morning should be well down into the 30s. We could still have 30s in some spots Friday morning. So, be prepared to protect your plants once again later this week.

A nice warm-up appears on the way as we head into the weekend and next week. We could have some 80s back in some spots by Sunday and Monday.
