Great Weekend Weather...Tropics Heating Up?

Fantastic weather is unfolding today with lots of sun and highs in the 70s.

We have settled into a very pleasant Fall-like pattern with lots of highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s. This pattern will continue through next work week. Enjoy!

In the tropics, we are watching 93L, a tropical disturbance in the eastern Caribbean Sea, for signs of development. Lots of modeling is jumping on this thing for development....see the Tropical Weather Video for details.

Also, it still looks like we might see some type of hybrid tropical development near the Carolina coast toward the end of next work week. Again, see the videos for details.

I have a pretty busy weekend ahead, so there might not be another post until Monday morning. Have a great weekend!

Fantastic Weather!

Today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video is docked above, and the Tropical Weather Video is linked in the right side column.

Fantastic weather has settled into the region, and it is going to stick around for a while. In fact, most Piedmont highs will be in the 70s throughout the next week with most morning lows in the 50s.

This pattern we are in is one in which Canadian high pressure areas will continue to move from Canada into the northeast US and then build down into our area. The next one arrives tomorrow, and we could have some breezy Friday afternoon conditions with highs in the low to mid 70s.

The weekend looks dry in the Piedmont, but like I have been mentioning, some coastal rain looks at least possible. See the videos for details.

Another push of cooler air arrives by Tuesday next week, and it might be the strongest one of the bunch. In fact, if current indications hold, we might not see some Piedmont locations make it out of the upper 60s for highs next Wednesday in spite of lots of sunshine! And, I will go ahead and say it, I would not be surprised if somebody in the Piedmont saw some upper 40s to low temps over the next week....seasons are definitely changing!

Improving weather...

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video. The Tropical Weather Video is linked on the right hand column.

Today began with lots of clouds and some light rain and drizzle around the region. However, drier air is working in today, and some intervals of afternoon sunshine are possible with highs in the low to mid 70s.

Tonight will be cool and comfortable with lows in the mid 50s under a mostly clear sky. Some patchy fog is possible as well.

We will get to enjoy some spectacular weather tomorrow though the weekend with highs tomorrow in the upper 70s to lower 80s, then mid 70s into the weekend. Each day should feature a good amount of sunshine, and morning lows will remain in the 50s.

There are still come indication that an inverted trough or area of low pressure might try to develop near the Carolina coast Sunday or Monday. However, if that does occur, the rain chances would likely remain east of the Piedmont. If you have beach plans, be aware that some rainy weather could occur Sunday and Monday.

Autumn officially arrives Monday, and right on cue, it looks like another push of cool, dry air will settle in by Tuesday and Wednesday.

Some of the initial before / after pictures from Hurricane Ike have been released by the USGS, and I have linked those on the left.

Cool, showery Tuesday....

A hybrid wedge has set up today and will bring us occasional showers and temps in the 60s much of the day. Tonight, she periodic showers will continue with lows down toward the upper 50s to lower 60s.

The showers look to end early tomorrow, and we might even see a bit of afternoon sunshine.

The weather looks really nice Thursday through the weekend with highs in the mid to upper 70s most days and most lows in the upper 50s.

Some modeling is picking up on low pressure development just off of the Carolina coast by Sunday. That would likely not have much impact on the Piedmont, but if you have beach plans this weekend, it might make for some wet weather. See the Tropical Weather Video for more details.

. I hope everyone had a great weekend. At the East household, we had a soccer game Saturday morning and then church and soccer pictures Sunday. Saturday night, we all hunkered down for the Mississippi State - Auburn game. Let me tell you....I get in to my MSU games....when a game is over, I am normally exhausted.

For those of you that don't know, Auburn won the game by a score of 3-2......that's right, 3-2. Now some people don't like to watch defensive struggles, but I do. I find them much more entertaining than a 45-40 game. So, I enjoyed the game.....right up until there was about 2 minutes to go and we could not get the ball back for one more try. We had every chance to win that game. The defense played very well. Losing a game 3-2 to the #9 team in the country....that is about the most frustrated I have been in a long time.

2. In our weather, a cold front is sliding through today, and that will bring a big change to more Fall-like weather. I don't know about you, but I am ready for it. We will have a wedge set up tonight through tomorrow night, and occasional showers will pass through the Carolinas. Highs here in the Piedmont today will be in the 80s, but tomorrow, while the wedge is in place, we will struggle to make it up into the lower 70s.

The wedge should erode away Wednesday, leaving us with fantastic weather the rest of the week. I expect lots of sun Thursday through the weekend with highs in the upper 70s and lows in the upper 50s!

3. Our vacuum bit the dust Saturday. We have not had to buy a vacuum in about 4 years, and I was actually kind of excited to shop for a new one. Our old one had not really worked as well as it should have in quite some time, and I was ready to see what a new one could do.

So, off Julianna (our1 year old) and I went to go vacuum shopping. After a couple of stops, I settled on the Dirt Devil Ultra Vision Turbo. We took it for a spin last night, and wow.....did it do an amazing job! I didn't know our carpets were that color or that soft. So far, so good with that one....
