THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN GREENVILLE-SPARTANBURG HAS ISSUED A
* FLOOD ADVISORY FOR...
WESTERN MECKLENBURG COUNTY IN THE PIEDMONT OF NORTH CAROLINA
* UNTIL 800 PM EDT
* AT 604 PM EDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR SHOWED
A CLUSTER OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OVER NORTHERN AND
CENTRAL MECKLENBURG COUNTY. THE STORMS WERE DRIFTING TO THE
SOUTH AT AROUND 5 MPH. ONE PERSISTENT CLUSTER EXPERIENCING
CONTINUED REDEVELOPMENT WAS AFFECTING THE HEADWATERS OF LONG
CREEK IN THE VICINITY OF MOUNTAIN ISLAND LAKE. RADAR ESTIMATED
AS MUCH AS 2 INCHES OF RAIN HAS FALLEN ALONG LONG CREEK
SINCE MID AFTERNOON.
* THROUGH 8 PM...SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL GRADUALLY
WEAKEN ALTHOUGH TORRENTIAL RAINFALL MAY CONTINUE ON AND OFF
BETWEEN MOUNTAIN ISLAND LAKE AND SODYECO...INCLUDING
SHUFFLETOWN. PONDING OF WATER ON ROADS AND POOR DRAINAGE
AREAS IS LIKELY IN THIS PART OF MECKLENBURG COUNTY...AND
NOTICEABLE RISE MAY BE NOTED ON LONG CREEK UPSTREAM OF ITS
JUNCTION WITH THE CATAWBA RIVER.
SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE TO DRIFT TO THE
SOUTH...EVENTUALLY AFFECTING CENTER CITY AND SOUTHPARK.
BE ALERT FOR POTENTIAL STANDING WATER AS STORMS MOVE
IN THE DIRECTION OF SOUTHERN MECKLENBURG COUNTY. IT IS
POSSIBLE THE FLOOD ADVISORY MAY NEED TO BE EXTENDED SPATIALLY
IF STORMS SET UP SHOP THROUGH EARLY EVENING OVER CHARLOTTE
AND MATTHEWS.
DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS
SAFELY.
