Monday evening....

The southern Piedmont has switched over to a mixture of sleet and freezing rain in many instances. All surfaces around the Charlotte metro are frankly turning into a sheet of ice. I would strongly, strongly advise not heading out tonight or tomorrow morning.

For the folks that did not get the good snow amounts, I am sorry it worked out that way. That was the diciest area of the forecast, and you knew it was a matter of dry air vs. incoming snow.

All areas in the region are fair game for freezing rain and drizzle tonight into at least tomorrow morning. Again, I would strongly recommend staying in.

Matthew, Really appreciate all the hard work you put in with your blog posts. Snow storms in NC are always tricky to predict, so its understandable if it dont always work out as thought. Thanks again for all you do!

Matthew,
I am amazed every time one of these winter storms, or any weather event that changes things from sunny and 70 degrees to wet, cold, nasty, hot, muddy, frozen, etc., just what a wonderful job you do of keeping us all informed. This time of year especially, us snow lovers flock to your page for the fabulous updates you give throughout each potential. I don't understand all the science behind the models like you do, but I do know how easily things change with these systems, and I think most of us understand they're very hard to predict with a strong measure of accuracy. Seems like the least little puff of wind dries up the atmosphere, or blows the low elsewhere or any thing else that can change it, whether for the better or the worse. Regardless though, you do a marvelous job of keeping us informed and up to date, as you pull long hours to do so. Not to mention, I'd say you do a pretty great job of being accurate on these things anyway!

So, I'd just like to say thank you very much. Every time one of these events rolls through, I realize again how blessed we are to have you forecasting for us and looking out for us. Hope you can get some rest after this one goes away. Thanks again, Matt!

Mark, it literally is a sheet of ice everyone in the Ballantyne area. Very scary. Even where I put down Ice melt it froze right over it. Tomorrow will be a nightmare for people that try and drive.

Matthew,
I know nobody is thinking of this yet, but wonder what is our next window of opportunity for snow? Also, today is Jan. 10, so that means approx. 60 days or less left with our current winter season, right?

TY

Wow, I am humbled by all of your kind words. Thank you so much....and thanks for caring to read my thoughts!

Very messy this morning.....freezing mist continuing, and continuing to glaze everything over.

As for the next system....watching the one early next week, but I don't have a great feeling about wintry prospect for that one. Admittedly, I have not spent a ton of time on it yet though.
