SOUTHEASTERN MECKLENBURG COUNTY IN THE PIEDMONT OF NORTH CAROLINA * UNTIL 545 PM EDT


* AT 344 PM EDT...THUNDERSTORMS...WITH VERY HEAVY RAINFALL...HAVE BEEN OCCURRING OVER MCALPINE AND FOUR MILE CREEK AREAS. RAIN GAUGES IN THESE AREAS HAVE REPORTED RAINFALL OVER TWO INCHES IN THE PAST HOUR. RADAR ESTIMATES HAVE INDICATED UP TO THREE INCHES. * RISES WILL OCCUR ON MCALPINE...IRVINS AND FOUR MILE CREEKS...AND THEIR TRIBUTARIES. SIGNIFICANT PONDING OF WATER IN LOW LYING AND POOR DRAINAGE AREAS WILL ALSO OCCUR. DURING HEAVY RAIN EVENTS...SEVERE URBAN FLOODING CAN RAPIDLY DEVELOP IN AREAS SUCH AS UNDERPASSES...AND LOW AREAS WHERE WATER TENDS TO COLLECT. DO NOT LET YOUR CHILDREN PLAY NEAR SMALL STREAMS OR DRAINAGE DITCHES AND STORM SEWERS DURING PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN.
