Here are two level II radar images from the GSP NEXRAD as the apparent tornado was moving through the foothills. The first image is when the storm was near Ellenboro....the second was when it was nearing Icard and Hildebran.

Well, so far it's almost mid-Jan and it's still pretty mild. Would you say this winter may go into the books as one of the mildest winters on record? (it is a bad news for snow fans...) Also, I see you posted pics of tornado - is it unusual to have tornado at this time of the year?

Wow, that was some scary stuff from folks up that way. I heard reports from power lines being down, to a Barn being blown out, and a house falling on a basement shelter trapping some people inside. Definitely don't expect to see that in January.
TY....tornadoes can happen any month in NC, but January is definitely rare. In fact, first tornado on record in Rutherford or Burke counties in Dec, Jan, or Feb.
I still don't think it's time to write off winter....but we are definitely at the mid-way point.
