Scattered strong storms....

>> Wednesday, August 05, 2009

**Lots of behind the scenes graphical work at News 14 Carolina this morning, so no time for a new edition of the video.**

A cold front is approaching from the west today, and we should see a fairly hot day with highs in the lower 90s. As the afternoon hours unfolds, some scattered showers and storms will develop, and some of the storms could produce damaging winds and large hail.

We will be behind the front tomorrow, so the chance of rain looks pretty low. Highs will back down into the upper 80s tomorrow and again on Friday.

Heat will build over the weekend, and I still expect the hottest several day period of the summer thus far with mid to upper 90s Sunday through Tuesday.

Matthew, I have a question about models. O.K, what does the z's mean??(00z,6z,12z.18z.) I know 00z means midnight at the 0 degree longitude line, but what does that mean for us?? Also, if I look at the 18z GFS and I look and it says 8/09/2009 06 utc, does that mean its 6am on the prime meridian and 1 am here?? im confused break it down please.
Thanks!
