***Behind the scenes graphics work continues today....no time for a video.***
After rough and tumble weather yesterday around the region, a quieter day overall today with only a limited chance of a few isolated showers and storms today with highs in the mid 80s.
The sky will be mostly clear tonight with lows in the low to mid 60s. Tomorrow looks fantastic with lots of sunshine, low humidity values, and highs in the upper 80s.
The heat will build this weekend with mid 90s by Sunday and Monday....some upper 90s even possible in some spots. However, the heat looks short-lived with highs back close to average by mid-week next week.

Matthew, I have a question about models. O.K, what does the z's mean??(00z,6z,12z.18z.) I know 00z means midnight at the 0 degree longitude line, but what does that mean for us?? Also, if I look at the 18z GFS and I look and it says 8/09/2009 06 utc, does that mean its 6am on the prime meridian and 1 am here?? im confused break it down please.
Thanks!
Yes, z is Zulu time, or the time zone of the prime meridian. All meteorological data is done in zulu time.
When we are on daylight saving time, we are four hours behind zulu time...we are 5 hours behind it when we are on standard time.
So, this time of year, 12z is 8am, 18z is 2pm, etc....
Hope that helps!
so, the model runs come out at like 2 and 8?
For instance, the GFS is initialized at 0z, 6z, 12z, and 18z....it takes a few hours to process, so you actually will start getting the 6z GFS (the one that initialized at 2am) around 5-6am....
"KUDOS" TO U MATTHEW ON YOUR HUMIDITY COMMENTS AS IT RELATES TO THE TEMPERTURE & HEAT!!! Only true southerners know that the humidity not the heat runs the southerners day; the worse the humidity the worse the day. Would be helpful to know how much the humidity is going to make the temperture hotter ie feel like, also a list ofwhat the humidity is going to be each day in winter or summer or anytime especially with the wind speed & other listings you offer so we know where to look for it. Would always be better to give the humidity with the temp in the south. As I said it determines the southerner's day any season. u would be as good as VAN then altho u are very good now and better than the rest; cbs, & nbc local
Thanks so mufy for you kind words. Humidity makes all of the difference in the world in how it feels to people when outside.
Here is a good heat index chart....relating temp to humidity.
