Unsettled today and tonight....freeze next week??

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video.

Showers and storms storms are spreading through South Carolina into the southern Piedmont this morning. We also have a frontal boundary draped right through the region. To the north of the front, temps are in the mid 5os with lows of fog. To the south of the front, temps are in the low to mid 60s with less fog.

That boundary will meander around the region today, and we will continue to have the chance of showers and some embedded thunderstorms. I can't rule out the possibility that one or two storms produce some small hail or gusty winds today and this evening. However, through this evening, the big severe weather threat will be to our west.

Today will probably be a big severe weather day for portions of Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, and northern Florida. Tornadoes, high winds, and large hail are all possible this those regions today and this evening.

For our area, it is still possible we could see some strong to severe storms late tonight. However, it will greatly depend on whether or not we can see some unstable air surge in here from the south. There is a pretty good chance that showers and storms near the Gulf coast could cut off the transport of moist, unstable air into the Carolinas. However, that is still a question mark at this point.

Sunshine returns tomorrow along with very breezy conditions and highs in the lower 70s. Saturday still looks picture-perfect with sunshine and highs in the low 70s.

Our next chance of showers and storms is still set for Sunday night.

It looks like we will see a very significant blast of cold air engulf much of the eastern US next week. There is a pretty good chance we will see frost and freeze issues Tuesday and/or Wednesday morning.

Whenever folks ask me about putting plants in the ground, I always recommend they hold off until after Easter...and sure enough, in the week leading up to Easter, we may very well have frost and freeze issues.

I am in the weather office this morning, so that means no labor for my wife as of right now. So we continue to patiently await our new arrival!

Matthew, my thoughts with you, good luck with the baby thing. Seems Charlotte is located in a safe spot in terms of severe weather or normally, winter weather. It all seems to go south and east of us, oh well.

We get our fair share of severe weather, but certainly not to the extent of the Plains, Lower Mississippi Valley, or Deep South.

I appreciate the kind words Double J!
