Slow warming trend continues, but changes next week

>> Thursday, October 19, 2017

After another chilly start to our day for Thursday, highs will warm into the low and mid 70s for much of the piedmont this afternoon. Mountain highs will likely be in the upper 60s.....all under a sunny sky.

The slow warming trend will continue through Friday and into the weekend with a dry forecast holding on through the weekend as well.

Our next storm system will then arrive early in the week. There remains some timing differences among the various computer models, but for the time being, I will highlight good chance for some rain and embedded storms Monday into early Tuesday.

Following that system, I still expect a shot of the coldest air thus far this season to arrive Wednesday through Friday next week.

Hey Matt,

NOAA's Climate Prediction Center is saying another La Nina winter for the good chunk of US this winter. I remember we got up to 80s one or two days in February early this year. I thought we're going to have colder than normal winter this season? What's your thoughts on this?

Definitely looks like a La Nina winter, which often times means some milder-than-average temps in the Southeast. However, that is never a 100% certainty, so we shall see!
