Cold air and clippers...
>> Thursday, January 16, 2014
The snow band continues to rapidly exit to the east through central NC early this morning. Some areas did indeed pick up a dusting of snow, but as expected, this was not a big deal.
Another clipper will move through tomorrow. The moisture now looks more limited with that one, so I have removed snow shower chances from my forecast, outside of the mountains.
Saturday will be cold with some piedmont spots failing to reach 40 for a high.
Another clipper will move in Saturday night into Sunday morning. Again, moisture will be limited, but there is a slight chance that a couple of snow showers could break containment from the mountains. But I wouldn't hold your breath.
Looks like we are gearing up for a big shot of cold air next week. This could be an airmass where our highs fail to reach freezing in parts of the piedmont by Tuesday or Wednesday. And, as I show on the video, it sure looks like the pattern is heading toward one that favors more sustained cold for the eastern US from next week into early February.
