Near-record warmth today...chillier this weekend...

>> Thursday, February 23, 2012

Here is today's edition of the video:

We had some pretty rough storms rumble through last night, and a number of the storms produced some wind damage. At one point last night, there were over 6,000 people in the Triad area without power.

Our big weather story today is warmth. Highs will surge into the 70s across much of the region, and some record high temps could topple.

A cold front will move through tomorrow and could bring some showers to parts of the region. However, I don't expect a big rain event.

It will turn chillier this weekend behind the front with highs in the lower 50s for a lot of the foothills and piedmont. Lows will drop into the 20s in many places Sunday morning.

Next week...

Tons of uncertainty with the specifics for next week. See the video for more....

Matt,
What would be your thoughts in terms of snow chances for CLT metro area as we are approaching March? Are we pretty much done for the season or do you foresee a late season storm coming sometime?

I don't see any snow potential for at least the next week, and of course, it gets much less likely the deeper we get into March. However, can't rule out anything just yet.
