Convective Snow Showers

>> Tuesday, November 18, 2008

You don't see convective snow showers in the Piedmont in November too frequently. Pretty amazing. These snow showers will be gone by around sunset....they are driven by the heating of the day.

I live up in surry county. I was wondering what do you think the winter will be like since we are already having cold temps before thanksgiving. I am hoping for some good snows....I must say I am encouraged with the cold air getting in here this early.

The weather models are hinting at a storm near the beginning of December.

Remember November 19, 2000 when much of central North Carolina saw 1 to 2 inches of snow, so snow can happen in central NC in mid November.

1. The pattern for December looks like a fairly cold one, so hopefully we will have our opportunities for snow.

2. Yep, the storm is still showing up on modeling, but the details remain way up in the air.

3. Oh yeah, I know snow can and does happen around here in November...my point was those type of snow showers are not an everyday occurrance in November.
