Cold airmass blowing in...

Today will be a fairly blustery day as a cold airmass blows into the region. Up in the mountains, the upslope snow machine is in full swing today, and many northwest facing slopes will pick up 2-4" of snow with some localized amounts over 6".
In the Piedmont, it will be a fairly breezy day with highs in the mid to at most upper 50s. As a disturbance ripples overhead late this afternoon and early this evening, a few pop-up showers are possible...maybe even a rumble of thunder. I also still think a few spots might see a sleet pellet or two.
Tonight lows will drop fairly close to freezing in many Piedmont spots. Highs tomorrow will struggle to make it to 50 degrees, and then lows Sunday morning will plunge into the mid to upper 20s.
Warm-up...
If you are wanting warmer temps, then you will like next week. Highs by the middle part of the week will reach to near 70 degrees or so, and most days will feature lots of sun.
Tomas...
Tomas is a hurricane once again, and the system is passing very close to western Haiti and eastern Cuba today. Tomas will then move through the eastern Bahamas and out to sea in the Atlantic.

Just had a heavy shower with what's called graupel/soft hail/snow pellets here in Reidsville. It all melted as soon as it hit the pavement but it was enough to get everyone talking.

Thanks for the reports....had to figure this was a possibility with the very cold air aloft.
You're the only one who mentioned the possibility of this. Guess you're pretty far ahead of the rest of them! Thundering here in Reidsville right now.
