What season is this?

>> Friday, March 22, 2013

Winter-like weather continues across the region, and as I have been mentioning, I think our highs will remain well below average for much of the rest of the month.

I spend most of today's video discussing our incoming storm system for the weekend. Give it a look:

Feels like a mid-Winter day...

>> Thursday, March 21, 2013

Today is the first full day of Spring, but it feels like the dead of Winter out there with many highs around 20 degrees or so below average. Add in a stiff northwest wind....and it's cold.

A hard freeze is on the way tonight.

I spend a lot of time in today's video on the weekend system....take a look.

And I still see no sign of any 'warm' air for the rest of the month.

Lots of cold coming.... weekend system....

>> Wednesday, March 20, 2013

Please see today's video.... I delve into what's ahead, including lots of below average temps for the rest of the month.

The weekend system is still there, but model uncertainty continues. The ensemble means of the European and GFS continue with a general Miller B type scenario while the operational runs are wishy-washy.

Again, see the video for more....

Milder and breezy today... colder air coming...

>> Tuesday, March 19, 2013

Let me say this right off the bat.... if you are wanting sustained warmth, I think you are going to have to wait until April. The Arctic Oscillation is deep into the negative territory, and that will continue to favor a chilly pattern in the eastern US for the next 10 days. See the top line on the chart below:

With that said, we will squeeze in a milder day today with highs topping 60. However, it looks like 50s tomorrow and then 40s for highs Thursday.

See the video for more on the possibilities with our next system this weekend. A very well-defined cold air damming setup will await the system.

Wedge today, and lots of cold air coming. Weekend mischief?

>> Monday, March 18, 2013

The warmth of the weekend feels like a distant memory today with a wedge in play. See the video for more on temps today, but safe to say, much colder with clouds and light rain at times.

Showers tonight ahead of a cold front, and then we squeeze in a mild, albeit windy, day tomorrow before lots of cold air settles in for the medium to long range.

For those wanting Spring warmth to settle in..... not going to happen for the next 10 days or so. (The Price is Right horn makes an appearance in today's video just for you.) In fact, we will be looking at a lot of well below average temps from late this week through much of next week.

A frontal boundary in the northern Gulf could be a breeding ground for a couple of low pressure areas to form Friday through Monday. If that's the case, I can't even rule out some wintry weather mischief somewhere.

Again, please see the video for much more....
