Very cold this weekend....

Above is today's edition of the video.

Out storm system, as expected, pressed through the region with very limited moisture last night. Some folks saw some flakes, while some warmer air mixed in and gave other spots a little rain. Either way, the precipitation was not the really significant part of this forecast. The cold air is....

Temps this afternoon will struggle to make it back up to the lower 30s, and then look for teens for lows through the weekend. Highs tomorrow and Saturday will be in the mid 30s at best.

We will see highs warm to the upper 40s to lower 50s by Wednesday and Thursday, and then a major system will roll through next weekend. See the video for some graphics on that system. I would lean toward this being an all-rain system for the Carolinas, but don't hold me to that just yet.

Some snow showers possible tonight....bitterly cold tomorrow and this weekend.....

Give today's video a look. Really no changes from me. I expect the chance of some light snow or snow showers this evening and tonight in the Piedmont. Many folks will see no accumulation at all, but some places could pick up a dusting to an inch or so. The moisture just looks too limited for a big snow event.

Another very significant blast of arctic air will be with us tomorrow through the weekend. It will be a struggle to get highs to freezing and lows will be way down in the teens. Brrr!

Next storm system....another arctic blast on the way....

>> Wednesday, January 06, 2010

Give today's video a watch....I take you through my thoughts on this next storm system, our next big blast of cold air, and where the pattern is headed deeper into January....

We will see a good bit of sunshine today, but it will again be cold with highs in the mid to upper 30s. Lows tonight will drop to around 20.

Our next system is moving our way, and snow is flying in the northern and central Plains. That system will dive southeastward and spread snow through the Tennessee Valley tonight into tomorrow morning. Accumulating snow still looks likely for places such as Tupelo, Memphis, Birmingham, and Chattanooga. As the system pulls in here, the mountains will wring out a lot of the moisture, but this system will pack enough of a punch that at least a few snow showers should traverse the Piedmont by tomorrow evening. A dusting of snow is possible in some spots, but that is about it with the limited amount of moisture available. So, the snow does not look like a big deal.

What will be a big deal is the renewed push of arctic air that will flow in here for Friday and the weekend. Highs will struggle to make it into the low to mid 30s with lows well down into the teens.

Temps will moderate a bit next week, but nothing really warm....just closer to average.

Brrr.....and some Southeast snow too.....

Frigid air remains in place right through the weekend with 30s for highs and lots of teens for lows.

Accumulating snow is up in the mountains today, and a few flurries might scoot through the Piedmont. But cold is the main story again today.

Our next system cause snow to break out snow in Arkansas and Missouri late Wednesday night into Thursday morning, and this will being snow to north and central Mississippi and Alabama and points north Thursday. This could be a 1-3" (and isolated 4" totals) snow event for places like Jackson, MS and Memphis over through Birmingham, Huntsville, and Nashville.

For northeast Georgia up through the Carolinas, downsloping is the enemy of snow fans. It looks like this system will take a trajectory that is very difficult to get significant accumulating snow for the I-85 corridor. So, it looks like clouds and maybe some light snow for GSP, Charlotte, and the Triad later Thursday, but any snow accumulation looks very light.

Another big push of cold air rolls in here for Friday and the weekend, and it could even be a little colder than the current arctic blast.

A little moderation takes place early next week, and another potential system rolls our way around Wednesday.
