Nice!

Cooler and drier air is settling in tonight. I love watching the observations roll in from the North Carolina mountains. As I am typing this, the temperature has dropped to 56 degrees at the Swinging Bridge Visitor Center atop Grandfather Mountain. It is also 56 at the summit of Sugar Mountain, and the high there today was only 60!

Saturday's weather will be fantastic with lots of sunshine, low humidity values, and highs in the low to mid 80s.

Forecast questions arise for Sunday, and I am getting the feeling we might have to add in the chance for some showers and storms Sunday afternoon.

Again today, I am back in the saddle after spending some time with family out of state. The part of the country we went to has been in the grips of a significant drought. My kids were looking forward to doing a lot of swimming, and wouldn't you know it....it rained multiple times every day. But, I won't complain because they needed the rain badly.

Around here, a cold front is approaching from the north. Out ahead of it, a few passing showers or storms will be possible tonight. As the front slips through tomorrow, I think a decent amount of showers and storms will fire up midday through the afternoon hours.

That front is the leading edge of a much drier and cooler airmass that we get to enjoy this weekend. Humidity values will be pleasant both Saturday and Sunday with lots of sun and highs in the 80s.

On a completely different note, the television Emmy nominations came out this morning. I am not a huge follower of the various awards events for TV and movies, but I had to comment this time. I don't have any huge complaints with the comedy categories. However, I have HUGE complaints with the drama categories. How in the world can 'Lost' and 'Friday Night Lights' not get nominated for Best Drama?

'Lost' had a fantastic third season, rebounding from a somewhat questionable start to the season. The season finale of Lost is simply some of the most gripping television I have seen in a very long time. It was amazing. The same word can actually be used to describe the entire second half of Season 3.

And, I defy you to fine a television show that portrays life more realistically and believably than 'Friday Night Lights.' For me, that shows was like sitting down for a full-course meal that hit just the right spots. It is a terrifically satisfying hour of television each and every week. The drama is real, and you experience each scene. That is a show where you can easily forget you are watching a fictional TV show....it just feels that real. And, it is that good.

How those two incredible shows got over-looked I will never understand. Also, it is unimaginable how some of the incredible actors on those shows got left off the nomination list. I am glad Michael Emerson and Terry O'Quinn got nominated in the supporting category.

OK...off of my soapbox. Back to regular programming.....

Well, we had some heavy rain-producing storms move through the area this afternoon. Parts of Stanly County received close to 5 inches of rain in less than two hours! Things have settled down now, and aside from a passing shower being possible overnight, the night ahead looks quiet.

Again, we are heading out of town for the next few days. We will spending time with family out of state, so there will be no new blog posts until at least Thursday.

Thanks so much for reading. God bless!
