A few storms possible...

>> Friday, June 26, 2009

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video.

A weak cold front is dropping our way today, and that should be enough to kick off a few showers and storms this afternoon and evening. A few of the storms could be locally strong to severe with wind damage the primary threat. Highs today will mainly be in the lower 90s.

That cold front should be just to our south tomorrow, so a dry Saturday looks on tap with lots of sun and highs in the low to maybe mid 90s in spots.

Another cold front will drop in later Sunday and bring another chance of scattered showers and storms Sunday afternoon and night.

Behind that Sunday cold front, slightly cooler and drier air will settle in for the new work week. Highs most days will be in the upper 80s to near 90 with lows in the 60s.

In the tropics, there is a healthy disturbance in the central Caribbean Sea that is heading toward the Yucatan Peninsula. Several computer models are picking up on development potential with that, and whatever can develop will be in the Gulf by early next week. It is interesting to note the Canadian model takes it to the Florida Panhandle and then up through Georgia and into the Carolinas later next week. That is an outlying solution at the moment, but something that bears watching.

See the video above for some discussion on that....it is near the end of the video.

Enjoy the weekend!
