Chilly, occasionally rainy weather...

Our chilly and damp weather has arrived. In today's video, I also take a look at the upcoming week's forecast, the possibility of some mountain snow this weekend, and an update on the fall foliage.

Here we go Matt, let the games begin!!

It's interesting their storm system description of how the past several years the storms would go from Texas up to the Great Lakes. That's exactly what's happened. The predicted storm systems path going directly east makes more of our classic Miller A; Noreaster storms that go from Atlanta, up I-85 to Charlotte. Let's hope that's the case for us snow lovers! Hopefully this prediction isn't as bad as the hurricane season predictions every year!

Matthew, I love this pattern. The 12z gfs model is interesting. If this was just a little later later we would be talking snow for sure North Carolina. Even now, it's pretty close..another 1 to 2c cooler right above the surface and it would happen and I'm wondering if it might be possible for some dynamical cooling to take place making for a small area of rain/snow mix or even briefly all snow somewhere over sc and nc, especially north carolina. The 12z gfs soundings are too warm at first glance in the low levels but I've seen similar profiles before overcome if the micro dynamics are strong enough but those times are usually deeper into the cold season..but the best dynamics are coming through at night so that helps.

Right now I'd say the chances are obviously unlikely But if the 12z gfs was right, I would not be surprised at all if a few flakes mixed in during or with any enhanced precipitation saturday night/sunday morning over central nc especially.

Brad....indeed....hope it comes to fruition.

You are right about the 12z GFS....it is close. I certainly think some sleet could mix in if we get any convective rain showers....and that is close to snow....will have to delve into the soundings further....
