Fantastic Weekend Weather...

>> Friday, February 06, 2009

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video.

After another cold start with some teens in many Piedmont locations, the big warm-up begins today with highs in the upper 40s to lower 50s under a sunny sky.

Let me tell you....tomorrow will be fantastic with sunshine and highs back into the 60s. Enjoy!

Highs will again be in the 60s Sunday, but some clouds will roll in during the afternoon. However, it still looks like a very nice day.

If you want to get in a ski trip this weekend, go for it. The ski conditions will still be very nice, and the weather will be mild. Highs Saturday and Sunday will be in the 50s in many mountain locations. An isolated shower is possible Sunday with better shower chances Monday.

Back in the Piedmont, we will briefly cool down behind a back door cold front Monday with highs in the lower 50s. But I expect highs right back into the 60s Tuesday and Wednesday.

It still looks like we will see a rain-producing system move through Wednesday night into Thursday. Behind that system, I still like the looks of where this pattern could head from around Valentine's Day forward. The pattern for the second half of the month looks loaded with potential. Will that potential be realized? Time will tell....

Let's keep our fingers crossed

Yea, after this weekend, I'm convinced we're done. Let's look forward to next year for snow....it ain't happening this year. We might get some storms from the gulf but the cold is GONE, nice soaking rains maybe.

I seriously doubt we're going to be anywhere close to cold enough to snow in late February and March after this weekend. It's another early spring....and yes, the yoshino cherrys are now BLOOMING!

That's gonna make it 6 years now in Charlotte without any measurable snow (at the airport) right? Since 2004?

Brad,
May be you might be right about the chance of snow being done here; but let's wait and see. I think it may be too early to give up hope (like what Matt our weatherman says). Who knows it might get colder again next week (and that maybe our last cold shot until next winter?) Maybe what we're experiencing now is a temp. break from cold, which I think is nice. Sometimes it's nice to have warmth in between for change.

Well well well say hello to Mr. Pessimisim. I say there's still hope. The woolly worm was black this year! Ahaha....

Brad...

You may be right that we are finished with wintry weather chances this season....but it will have nothing to do with our current stretch of mild weather. I feel sure we are not finished with cold weather this season either...there is just too much winter left, and too much blocking showing up in the longer range.

I have no real changes in my thoughts on the overall pattern we could be heading into later this month....it should be colder and stormier. Now, we might end up with a cold rain while Virginia gets tagged with snow time and again...who knows. Those are details I can't resolve this far out.

As for observed snow at the Charlotte airport, not counting this winter...

'07-'08: 1.4"
'06-'07: 1"
'05-'06: T
'04-'05: 0.8"
'03-'04: 14.5"

Technically, we have had measurable snow at KCLT every winter since '94-'95 except for the T in '05.-'06

Hey Matt, thanks for the snow measurement clarification. Talk about a drop in the bucket....we're hurtin' on snow. Not trying to be pessimistic, and I sure hope I'm wrong...just trying to not get myself disappointed too bad :)

By gosh though, I'm just having a hard time seeing how we go from 75 degree weather to weather cold enough to support a snow. Now, going back to seasonal....I can see that. Snow cold though? That'll be a huge swing. Oh well. It's either gonna happen or it's not.....I'll just wait and see.

Brad
