Highs today will be in the mid 30s for most in the piedmont. However, another blast of arctic air will buckle in here by tonight, and lows tonight will head down into the 8-12 degree range by tomorrow morning for many. The wind will still be a factor as well, and therefore, wind chill values tomorrow morning will likely dip below zero for a period of time for some. Up in the mountains, I anticipate widespread wind chills between -20 and -30 later tonight and tomorrow morning. Brutal stuff.

Highs tomorrow will only warm into the mid and upper 20s in spite of a sunny sky, and I anticipate teens for lows again Saturday morning.

We will see a slight reprieve from the arctic air this weekend, but nothing 'warm' by any means. Highs Saturday through Monday will head into the 40s.

Another big blast of arctic air will then invade the region again by Tuesday. In fact, the Canadian is very aggressive with the amount of cold air with that one. Thereafter, there are some signs of the cold pattern relaxing a bit toward next week.

Cold with impressive staying power....

>> Wednesday, January 22, 2014

After a little snow in many areas yesterday evening and last night, the cold air has overwhelmed the region. Highs in the piedmont will range from the upper 20s to lower 30s in spite of plenty of sun.

Another shot of cold air... one that is even slightly colder than our current blast, will arrive tomorrow night and Friday. Some spots east of the mountains might even have single digit lows Friday morning.

The staying power of this pattern is very impressive. In fact, I continue to see good indications of continued blasts of cold air for quite a while to come. Please see the video for more....
