Scattered showers and storms through the weekend...
A big-time round of storms developed early Thursday afternoon in the foothills, then spread southeast into the Piedmont. The CLT metro area had much of the worst of the storms with some localized flash flooding, wind damage, and hail.
The cooler regime has settled in, and most spots in the region will have highs in the mid to upper 80s today into the weekend. Today and tomorrow will feature scattered showers and storms. Then on Sunday, our next cold front will be nearing, and I anticipate a good coverage of storms. Some storms could be severe at times the next few days.
Behind that front, the weather still looks nice for a large portion of next work week. There might be a few lingering showers or storms Monday underneath a big upper trough, but Tuesday and Wednesday look fantastic with 80s for highs, lows well down into the 60s, and low humidity.
Tropics...
Two tropical waves in the eastern Atlantic need watching. The lead wave (92L) will likely wind up curving north in the Atlantic before it could threaten the US. The second wave (93L) looks to take a farther south track, and that alone increases the overall chance of an eventual US threat.
I discuss these waves in today's video, and of course we will continue to update you on News 14 Carolina in our Tropical Updates at :21 and :51 past the hour. Lots of information is also available on the Tropical Weather portion of this site.

The heat will gradually back down over the next few days. Highs today look to be in the lower 90s in many areas with upper 80s and low 90s tomorrow then some 80s over the weekend into next week.
A few showers or storms are possible today and tomorrow as well.
Over the weekend, a cold front will approach and move through, bringing good shower and storm chances along with it, especially Saturday night and Sunday. Behind that front, the weather looks very nice for a good chunk of next work week with 80s for highs, lows way down into the 60s, and low humidity.
Tropics...
Several areas of interest in the tropics....the most interesting of which is the eastern Atlantic where a couple of strong tropical waves have emerged off of the African coast. One or both of these waves could develop in coming days.....see the video for lots of graphics on this.
