Looks like a good number of scattered storms will fire off later today. A soupy airmass is still in place, and we will have a couple of frontal boundaries meandering around the region. Like we have seen the past couple of days, any storms that form could produce damaging winds and/ or large hail.

DISCUSSION...THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP EWD FROM APPALACHIANS INTO LOWER ELEVATIONS WHERE A MDTLY UNSTABLE AIR MASS RESIDES. WHILE SHEAR IS AROUND 30KT...COLD POOL DEVELOPMENT EXPECTED TO LEAD TO CLUSTERS/SHORT LINES SEGMENTS MOVING EWD ENHANCING POTENTIAL FOR WIND DAMAGE INTO THE EVENING.

Scattered storms...

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the mountains of NC. Scattered storms are possible anywhere across the region this afternoon and evening, and a few could produce some hail and wind.
