Another fantastic weekend...

>> Friday, November 12, 2010

It seems essentially every weekend since late summer has been fantastic....and this one will be no different. Look for highs today to top out in the mid to upper 60s will full sunshine. A sunny sky continues for Saturday with highs in the upper 60s to around 70, and Sunday will still feature lots of sun and highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s.

Our next system is still set to arrive by Tuesday. There is still some question as to the exact timing of the system, but overall Tuesday still looks to be the day when most of the rain occurs. With that said, I can't rule out some showers trying to creep in later Monday. Highs will remain in the 60s.

Mid-week next week looks very quiet.

Next cold shot....

It appears a pretty decent shot of cold air will move in by the end of next work week. Highs will likely return to the 50s by Friday.

Thanksgiving week....

Lots of uncertainty. Extremely cold air will arrive in Canada next week and begin to bleed into the northern US with time as we head toward next weekend. A lot of modeling keeps the coldest air bottled up a little to our north for Thanksgiving week, but I don't think that is a certainty yet. Considering the magnitude of the cold air that will move into the northern US, conventional wisdom tells me that at some point later this month, we will get into that.

Terrific Veterans Day Weather...

>> Thursday, November 11, 2010

First of all, a huge 'thank you' to all who served to protect our lives and liberties. We honor you and thank you for your service.

In terms of the weather, you can't draw it up much better than what we have on tap again today. Again, lots of sun is on the way with highs in the upper 60s to near 70 degrees.

We will continue to see a primarily sunny sky tomorrow through the weekend with highs in the mid to upper 60s....maybe some lower 70s in spots.

Next storm system...

It looks like the bulk of the rain from our next storm system will roll through Tuesday of next week. This will occur as a wave of low pressure rides up from the Gulf of Mexico and through our region.

Cold air later this month??

The computer models are all over the place with the possibility of a cold plunge later this month. As is often the case when we are looking at a true arctic plunge into the US in the 7-14 day range, the models are really struggling and inconsistent.

I am fully confident that some very cold air will invade the northern US later next week. Where and how quickly it moves from there is still very debatable, but I still favor the idea of colder air settling into our region around Thanksgiving week. But nothing is set in stone yet. With the degree and depth of cold air that will likely move into the northern states next week, it is almost inevitable that it will make it into our area at some juncture.

Quiet, pleasant weather marches on...

>> Wednesday, November 10, 2010

Our extremely quiet weather week rolls on today with lots of sunshine and pleasant afternoon temperatures. Highs will be a touch cooler today than yesterday, with most Piedmont spots hitting the upper 60s to lower 70s.

Sunshine will remain a fixture in our forecast right on into the upcoming weekend. Highs tomorrow through Sunday will largely be in the 60s, with morning lows dipping into the 30s again Friday and Saturday morning.

Next week...

Our next system will emerge from the Gulf of Mexico and spread some rain into the region next work week. As of now, the timing has slowed a bit, with the best chances for rain likely occurring Tuesday into Wednesday.

Cold blast later this month??

A huge ridge will go up along the Pacific coast next week while another ridge also develops near or just west of Greenland. This will allow some pure arctic air to begin to pour into North America. As far as the US is concerned, we will likely see that cold air begin to make a southward plunge later next week.

For our region, I still think a big blast of cold will settle in later this month, and I will continue to say anytime from around the 20th into Thanksgiving week is fair game.
