Saturday night...

Cold front still approaching the area, but the atmosphere has been greatly stabilized for the Charlotte viewing region. The best instability is now confined to the eastern part of the state ahead of a large gust front....you could see that large gust front, or outflow boundary, clearly on the Raleigh NEXRAD site this evening. So, I anticipate showers continuing tonight, and a few storms could also be involved. But I don't think we will see any big severe weather problems in the Charlotte region.

Drier air will work in as Father's Day unfolds, and that will shift the best zone for showers and storms to the southeast with time.....

Friday morning...

Above is the early morning visible satellite image (click to enlarge). I love looking at these types of satellite images, especially in the morning. Notice the wildfires still going in the eastern part of the state. That smoke plume is again heading westward this morning. Another thing I notice, although not really associated with our weather, is a little boundary causing some showers and storms out in the Atlantic Ocean. Neat stuff.

Thursday Evening...

Tragic situation with the tornado that hit the Boy Scout troop up in Iowa. My prayers go out to all involved. Here is come information from the National Weather Service on the EF-3 tornado.

Smoky conditions have prevailed today over the Triad and Triangle regions. You can go to this website to see a couple of live images from across the state. Easterly winds pumped the smoke right in today, and that will continue tonight. But, I expect some improvement around the Triad tomorrow as the wind direction shifts around to more southeasterly and southerly.

Scattered showers and storms also fired around the Triad, and we could see a few of those linger tonight. While an isolated shower or storm looks possible tomorrow and Saturday, I think most spots remain dry those days. However, a frontal boundary will drop in a bring a pretty good chance of some showers and storms for Father's Day.
