Record highs challenged today...

>> Friday, February 18, 2011

Here is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video. Record highs in jeopardy today, a good Saturday forecast, and some changes next week. I also take a look at the latest drought index that was released yesterday.

Some record highs are in danger this afternoon. Here are some select record highs for today:

Raleigh: 75
Greensboro: 71
Charlotte: 78
Asheville: 72
GSP: 73

It is within the realm of possibility that any of those records could be tied or broken. The most likely candidates are Greensboro and GSP.

Tomorrow will be nice with 60s to near 70 for highs and lots of sun. Winds will kick up out of the northwest, and humidities will be low...so the fire danger will ramp up again.

A bit cooler for Sunday, but then back up toward the 70s Monday. Still a limited chance for a shower or two Monday night into early Tuesday, but nothing that will aid in drought-relief.

Cooler Tuesday and Wednesday before a better chance for some rain arrives around Friday.

Take a look at today's video...a take a peek at the longer range near the end of the video.

Have you seen the 00z and 06z run of the GFS? The 00z laid down anywhere from 2-12" of snow from Charlotte to Mount Airy(the more snow the more North you went) and the 6z laid down 1-4" :) I'm praying for a repeat of '93!!
