Spring arrives with cooler temps

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video.

Ugh.....my Bulldogs season ended with a thump yesterday with a loss to Washington. Give Washington credit...they were the more physical team, and they earned that win. It has been a while since I have seen MSU play that poorly, and I think Washington deserves much of the credit for that. Oh well, college baseball season is in full swing now, and spring football practice starts next week.

Spring rolls in today at 7:44AM, and we will welcome spring with some cooler temps moving in. Highs today will be in the 50s to near 60 in most Piedmont spots with lots of sunshine.

A lot of folks have done some gardening or seen their plants spring to life. If that is the case for you, you need to plan to cover them up or bring them inside tonight and tomorrow night. Lows both tomorrow and Sunday morning will be in the low to mid 30s, in the frost and freeze range.

The first weekend of Spring will be a nice one, just cooler with highs tomorrow in the 50s and low to mid 60s Sunday with lots of sun.

Our next significant storm system looks to bring some rain chances later Wednesday into Thursday.

Weather changes coming again...

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video.

Wow...what a fantastic day around the Carolinas yesterday. Today, we will even be a bit warmer in most spots with highs in the lower 70s for most. However, clouds are on the increase, and some showers will be possible later this afternoon and early this evening. A few rumbles of thunder are possible, but severe weather should not be an issue.

Cooler weather will settle in by tomorrow with highs only in the mid to upper 50s with sunshine through high clouds for our Friday.

For those that have already put plants in the ground, you will likely need to take precautions to protect them both Friday night and Saturday night with lows Saturday and Sunday morning near or just below freezing in many spots.

Temps will moderate next work week, and our next rain chances arrives by the middle part of the week.

NCAA Tournament begins today, including games in Greensboro. Very excited to see how my Bulldogs can do against Washington this afternoon. It is a long trip (all the way to Portland), and we played four games last Thursday through Sunday. However, I think we have a chance, and I am excited to watch. For those interested, the MSU-Washington game will be on at 4:45pm today on the CBS College Sports channel.

Love the tournament. And the first rounds always seem to be the best. Enjoy!

Fantastic Wednesday!

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video.

We are starting off the day with some fog and stratus clouds in spots. However, we will see lots of sunshine once the clouds and fog erode away, and highs will surge up into the upper 60s to even some lower 70s.

A cold front will swing through late tomorrow, and clouds will be on the increase tomorrow as the front approaches. It will still be warm with lots of lower 70s for highs tomorrow, but some showers look possible later tomorrow afternoon and evening. Most of the precip looks to occur behind the front, so I don't anticipate any big problems with thunderstorms.

Friday and the weekend will be chillier but dry with lots of sunshine. Highs Friday and Saturday will be in the 60s with lows in the low to mid 30s over the weekend.

This is the time of year when many folks get the gardening itch. I always recommend you wait until after Easter to put plants in the ground. You always have to watch for late-season frosts and freezes.

Prenatal appointment went well yesterday...next appointment is next Thursday....3 days before the due date. Wow!

Enjoy the day!

Sunshine returns!

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video....still re-installing items after the computer crash here at work, but I have enough ready to churn out a video for today.

After a stretch of cool, dreary, and rainy weather, sunshine will make its return for this St. Patrick's Day. This morning will see low clouds and some fog, but sunshine should work in with time in most spots, and highs will warm into the low to mid 60s.

Tomorrow looks fantastic with lots of sun and highs in the upper 60s to near 70. We will still be warm Thursday with highs not far from 70, but then a cold front will sweep in late Thursday and bring some weather changes.

First off, a few showers will be possible late Thursday and Thursday evening. Then some chillier air arrives for Friday and into the weekend. Highs will be in the 50s Friday and Saturday with lows near or below freezing over the weekend. Good news is right now I expect a dry weekend with a good deal of sunshine.

Off to another prenatal appointment this morning. We are rolling down the home stretch here....today is the 38 week appointment. Due date is less than two weeks away!

Wet Monday...

As many know, and as you can tell from my twitter posts over the weekend, I am a huge Mississippi State fan. I am very proud of my Bulldogs for pulling out a nail-biter in the SEC Championship game yesterday against Tennessee. You could really tell the fatigue of playing four games in four days was catching up to the Bulldogs, but they just gritted it out and found a way to win. I love how this team plays. SEC Champs, and now on to the NCAA tourney! No rest for the weary though as State has to head all of the way to Portland for a game Thursday against Washington.

Also over the weekend, I had the privilege of being the emcee for the Charlotte Kidney Walk. The weather was obviously not the best, but there was a very nice turnout, and the event was a big success. A big thank you to those of you who came out and those who supported the cause through donations...especially tough in these economic times. At the bottom of this post are a few pictures of News 14 Carolina folks involved with the event. Thanks to Kristen Reed for getting me those photos.

Another quick note, donations are obviously still welcome, and a good way to do that is by going to the the National Kidney Foundation's website by clicking here.

In terms of the weather, we have one more rainy, dreary day today before this pattern breaks. Sunshine will try to work in tomorrow with highs back into the low to mid 60s. By Wednesday, we will see lots of sun with highs in the upper 60s to even lower 70s in spots.

A cold front drops through Thursday and will being some shower chances, and then we will see a push of chillier air Friday and Saturday behind the front.
