Better for the weekend...

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video. This will be the last video until next week....I am on the road Friday and the weekend.

Damp, dreary weather is on tap for today as an upper air low gradually fills to our southwest. Occasional showers and drizzle are possible, and I can't rule out a storm in the southern Piedmont this afternoon.

However, drier air will push in here from the north for the weekend, making for a nice weekend forecast. Highs will be in the 70s with sunshine making its return. The weather should be fine for the Bank of America 500 out at Lowe's Motor Speedway Saturday evening.

Fall foliage is in full swing in the higher elevation of the North Carolina mountains, and around the Grandfather Mountain area, the peak of the season will likely be within the next 3-5 days. For lower elevations, the peak of the season is still a week or two away in most spots.

A reminder, send in those fall foliage pics..... matthew.east@news14.com

Enjoy the weekend!

Low Confidence Forecast...

I had a great time speaking to the kids out at Tuckaseegee Elementary School yesterday. They were a great group....

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video....check it out. Also, I love seeing fall foliage pictures, so if you would like, email me your Autumn pics at matthew.east@news14.com

Rain is falling in the Tennessee Valley as I am typing this this morning, and the Charlotte and Triad zones will see shower chances arriving this afternoon. This is a complicated storm system, and it is looking more and more likely that the best moisture will get shunted off to our south. However, with that said, I expect occasional showers tonight, tomorrow, and even into Friday.

Highs today will likely be in the mid to upper 60s due to the clouds with highs back in the 70s tomorrow and Friday.

Good news for our weekend forecast....for this forecast cycle, I have gone with a dry forecast both weekend days. That would be good news for the activities out at Lowe's Motor this weekend.

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video.

Cooler temps today with highs in the low to possibly mid 70s.

Still trying to parse out the specifics of our upcoming storm system. With this forecast package, I continue to go with the idea of rain chances settling in tomorrow night and lasting off and on through Friday....even some showers possible Saturday.

Our in-house modeling brings a nasty line of storms into the mountains during the pre-dawn hours Thursday....I am discounting that scenario for the time being. To me, this has the look of a stratiform rain event.

Today, I am speaking to a group of 3-5 graders out at Tuckaseegee Elementary School in Charlotte....should be a good time!

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video.

Good Monday to you! Warm, nice weather today with highs in the lower 80s. A back-door cold front slips through tonight, and highs tomorrow will be about 10 degrees or so cooler than what we will see today.

A nice cut-off low will develop over the Southeast to end the work week, and our rain chances are looking good from Wednesday night into Friday. Some nice rain totals are possible.

Reminder...check the links on the right for some fall foliage info....
