Chilly finish to the week...

>> Thursday, February 27, 2014

Highs today will be a little below average, and we will have some fairly gusty winds as a cold front moves through. With dry ground conditions, low humidity, and breeziness, the risk of wildfires is enhanced today.

That cold front will usher in even chillier air for tonight and tomorrow. Lots of piedmont spots will have lower 20s tonight, and some teens are possible in the normally colder locations. Highs Friday will only be in the low to mid 40s.

A weakening disturbance arrives Saturday morning and could bring some light wintry precip to parts of the region. Most models are only generating trace amounts of precipitation, and that is probably the correct idea. However, the NAM is much more aggressive with precip amounts than the other models. While I thin it's unlikely that solution is correct, it bears watching.

What precip does fall could be a brief, light wintry mix....maybe freezing rain primarily in NC. But again, at this point I am not expecting a big deal.

Another system rolls in Monday and brings some rain. Then we will watch for yet another system later next week. There remain some interesting possibilities with that one....see the video for more.

Hi Matt,
Looks like winter far from over. That's bad news for Spring fans. It looks like we won't warm up significantly until maybe after the time change next month? Please continue to keep up the good work!
Thanks, TK
