Heading into a warmer pattern.... temporarily....

>> Monday, January 07, 2013

Cool conditions out there to start the new work week, but highs in some spots by Wednesday will likely top 60.

Our warm-up will be temporarily muted Thursday as a cold air damming scenario set up...meaning cooler conditions with some showers Thursday and Thursday night.

That wedge might linger in some areas into Friday, but then we are set up for a Spring-like weekend ahead. At this point, I think there's a decent chance many spots (outside the mountains) could top 70 over the weekend.

HOWEVER.....it won't last long. A big cold airmass will slowly bleed southeastward from the Plains and Great Lakes region next week, and the storm track will be fairly active as well. So, Winter is not over by any means. In fact, it might just be getting started.....

Please see today's video for much more....

Hi Matt,
I hope the snow changes will improve once we hit the big cool down next week and back to more winter like temps. TK

The GFS has been advertising a possible wintry concept around the 18thish, but to be fair, its had several storms the last several weeks a couple of weeks out and then just lost it. However I think the more interesting thing is that once that storm moves out, how cold it looks like the air will be towards the end of January. I hope that plays out, I hope we can have a sustained period of cold air and make it feel like winter.

Matt,
Thanks for the update. I am hoping that the warm spell will be temporary!!!

Agreed guys..... hopefully we will continue to see indications of a pattern more favorable for winter weather fans as we get deeper into Winter.

By the way, the Euro still has a healthy CAD event next week, but temps are too warm for wintry precip in the Carolinas.
