Unsettled weather today and tomorrow...

>> Thursday, July 16, 2009

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video. Some showers trying to develop into the Piedmont this morning from the mountains. Then we will have some more scattered storms fire this afternoon as a cold front gets a little closer to the area. Highs today should be fairly close to 90.

Tomorrow looks quite unsettled. A cold front will pull through the area, and that will likely give us a nice round of showers and storms.

A few strong to severe storms are possible today and tomorrow....tomorrow probably being the greatest chance.

Cooler and drier air will settle in for the weekend. While I can't completely rule out an isolated shower Saturday or Sunday, I think most of us get by with dry conditions and highs only in the mid 80s at best.

Next week, it looks like tropical moisture will surge in here from the Atlantic, and that will likely lead to good shower and storm chances at times next work week.

One computer model, the Canadian, is up to its antics again in developing a tropical system near the Bahamas early in the week then lifting it up just off the Carolina coast. That is an outlying solution, but we will keep an eye on it.

This will be the last regular blog posting for a while. I am out of town this weekend, and then I will be over in Raleigh Tuesday and Wednesday next week for some training regarding our graphics system.

I might check in from time to time, especially on the twitter feed. It is embedded on the right.

Enjoy your weekend!

Still not too humid...

>> Wednesday, July 15, 2009

No new video today due to connectivity issues at work this morning.

We had a terrific start to the day with lows in the upper 50s to lower 60s across much of the region. It is not every day in July that you see 50s for temps!

Look for lots of sunshine today with highs close to 90. Humidity values will still be fairly low today.

However, it will be much muggier by tomorrow, and that will help to kick off some scattered showers and storms, mainly tomorrow afternoon. Highs will be in the upper 80s to near 90.

I expect more scattered storms Friday, but at this point, it appears most of the rain will get out of here in time for the weekend. Weekend highs will likely only be in the low to mid 80s!

Fantastic day!

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video. In it, I talk about the low humidity today, the rain chances ahead, and something showing up in the tropics on the modeling.

What a terrific day today! Sunshine, mid to upper 80s for highs, and very low humidity levels. It doesn't get much better than this in mid-July.

Another comfortable night is on tap tonight with lows in the lower 60s...maybe some upper 50s again in some spots.

Tomorrow will be a few ticks warmer with upper 80s to lower 90s for highs and a mostly sunny sky.

It gets muggy again by Thursday, and that will lead to more shower and storm chances Thursday into the weekend.

There are still no signs of any extreme heat around here anytime soon....in fact, temps look to be below average early next week.

The tropics are quiet now, but some modeling is beginning to pick up on something possibly brewing in the Atlantic next week....see the video for details.

Showers and storms today...

>> Monday, July 13, 2009

Above is today's edition of the video. A pretty unsettled day today with showers and storms highlighting the forecast.

Overnight storms developed in parts of Davidson and Randolph counties. In fact, a building caught fire due to lightning, and 5-6" of rain fell in northern Davidson county around Thomasville.

Send on those pics of storm damage...... weather@news14.com

Showers and storms will be around the region today, and the chance of the showers and storms will gradually diminish by later this afternoon into this evening. Highs will only be in the low to mid 80s for most.

Cooler, drier air arrives tonight with lows in the low to mid 60s.

Tomorrow will be warm and sunny, but humidity values will be very low...so it will be another day that really doesn't feel like summertime. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s.

Look for low 90s, maybe some mid 90s, Wednesday and Thursday with shower and storm chances returning Thursday into the weekend.
