Friday.....

>> Friday, July 10, 2009

We ended up with some areas of heavy rain and storms yesterday in portions of the Piedmont, and some flooding problems occurred.

Some isolated showers and storms are possible today, but the coverage should be far less than what took place yesterday. We will have a partly cloudy sky with highs only in the lower 80s this afternoon.

More sunshine will work in tomorrow with highs in the upper 80s. While an isolated PM storm can't be ruled out, most Piedmont locations will likely be dry tomorrow.

A cold front will approach Sunday and bring in some showers and storms to the region later Sunday afternoon and evening. Otherwise, Sunday looks fairly hot with highs in the lower 90s.

The heat will crank up a few degrees toward the middle of next week with highs in the mid 90s by Wednesday and Thursday.

Shower and storm chances today...

>> Thursday, July 09, 2009

Some folks had a wet start to our Thursday with some areas of light to moderate rain around. As today unfolds, we will continue to have the chance of some showers and a few storms as well. Temps will really be held down due to the clouds, and I expect most highs to be in the low to mid 80s at best.

Tomorrow, look for a partly sunny sky and highs in the low to mid 80s. A few isolated showers or storms also look possible.

Saturday looks like a sunny and warm day with highs in the upper 80s to near 90.

As we head into early next week, we will again bring in the chance of some showers and storms, mainly during the afternoon and evening. It will also get hotter with highs attempting to push the mid 90s by mid-week.

Still not overly muggy....

>> Wednesday, July 08, 2009

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video.

A stationary front remains draped off to our south today, and the best opportunity for any showers and storms will remain confined to points to our south. However, I can't rule out an isolated late afternoon or evening storms in the southern Piedmont. Otherwise, look for a partly sunny sky today with highs in the upper 80s and still relatively low levels of humidity.

The chance of a few showers and storms creeps into the forecast tomorrow with highs in the mid 80s.

I will maintain the chance of a few afternoon storms each day for the weekend into the middle of next week. While highs could warm into the low to mid 90s over the weekend, I still see no sign of any extreme heat over the next 10 days or so.

Lower humidity today....

>> Tuesday, July 07, 2009

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video.

First of all, 6.53" of rain in Wilmington yesterday evening. July 6 is now the 14th wettest day on record there in Wilmington.

Around the Piedmont, we will see lots of sunshine today, although some high clouds will stream overhead at times in the southern Piedmont. Highs today will mainly be in the upper 80s. Dewpoints are dropping, and that means we will get to enjoy pretty low levels of humidity this afternoon.

Tomorrow we will again see highs in the upper 80s to near 90 with a partly cloudy sky. Humidity values still look relatively low.

It will get a little muggier by Thursday, and in turn we will bring back in a chance of some isolated late-day storms. Really, the forecast will then not change much into early next week with some chance of a few PM storms each day and highs in the upper 80s to maybe lower 90s at times.

I still see no signs of any overly oppressive heat, although highs will likely warm higher into the 90s toward the end of next week.

Below are some viewer photos from the flooding in Wilmington yesterday evening.

Shower chances gradually end...

>> Monday, July 06, 2009

Above is today's edition of the video. I hope everyone had a wonderful Fourth! We just took it easy at home enjoyed the fantastic weather Friday and Saturday!

A cold front is pushing through the region today, and that will give a chance of some showers and storms to the Carolinas. Those chances will gradually end from north to south today as that front drops southward. However, in the southern Piedmont and the Sandhills, the chance of showers and some storms will linger through the afternoon.

Tomorrow will feature lots of sunshine and highs in the upper 80s to near 90. Same deal for Wednesday.

Later in the work week and into this weekend, we will bring back in the chance of some isolated storms during the afternoon hours. We could really use a nice widespread, soaking rain, but that is just not in the cards as of now.

The good news is that there remains no sign of any extreme heat around here anytime soon.
