Nice July 3rd weather....

>> Friday, July 03, 2009

A holiday schedule here at News 14 Carolina today. No, the Weather on the Ones does not stop of course, but there was no Wake Up Weather format at 5am today. That means I got an extra hour of sleep this morning! It is amazing how much difference that makes on a Friday morning!

With the different schedule this morning, I am not producing a new edition of the video....should have a new one for you bright and early Monday morning.

Lots of folks are hitting the road today, and if your travel plans take you around the Carolinas, you will have no problems today with lots of sunshine. Here in the Piedmont, our highs will mainly be in the mid 80s.

For those heading out of town, there will be some showers and storms today in the New England states as well as the High Plains and down in Florida.

For the Fourth tomorrow, we will see morning sunshine with some clouds rolling in during the afternoon. Highs should top out in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees in most spots.

I think we should stay dry through the evening hours, so we should be able to get those fireworks displays off OK. However, overnight, the chance of some showers and storms will roll in from the west.

Sunday looks like an unsettled day with showers and storms at times, and those chances will extend into Monday as well.

Drier weather should return as we head into the middle of next week.

If you are heading to the beach for the weekend, the weather should be warm and dry tomorrow, but some showers and storms are possible Sunday and Monday. Up in the mountains, a few storms are possible tomorrow afternoon and evening with good chances for some showers and storms Sunday and Monday.

Enjoy the Fourth!

Lower humidity again....

>> Thursday, July 02, 2009

Julianna, my 2 year old, walked into the corner of a collection post walking out of church yesterday evening and split her eyebrow open. She is doing just fine, but the two for us made a trip to the ER to see if stitches were required. Evidently, normally with a cut like that dermabond would have been used. However, this was right on the eyebrow, so that wasn't an option. Fortunately, stitches were not required. Made it home just before 11pm....made the alarm to get up for the early morning shift a little painful today. So, I am feeling it right now, but the important thing is that she is OK.

In terms of our weather, another low-humidity type of airmass is settling into the Piedmont today. We will see lots of sunshine and highs in the mid to maybe upper 80s. Late this afternoon and early this evening, I can't completely rule out an isolated shower or storm. However, I think probably 98% of the area will remain dry.

The weather tomorrow looks very nice with lows of sunshine and highs in the mid to upper 80s.

For the Fourth, look for mid to upper 80s to maybe lower 90s with most spots remaining dry. I can't rule out an isolated PM shower or storm, but most folks should not have any weather problems for your outdoor plans.

Unsettled weather will be with us Sunday and Monday with some shower and storm chances.

A few showers and storms...

>> Wednesday, July 01, 2009

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video.

There were some showers and storms last night up in the mountains, and some of the rain spilled out into the foothills and portions of the Piedmont this morning.

For today, highs will warm to around 90 in many spots, and we will have the chance of a few showers and storms. The storms that do manage to develop could be locally strong to severe with some damaging wind potential, but that chance is rather limited due to the relatively dry airmass in place.

Another push of slightly drier air will move back in tomorrow, and that will mean a dry forecast tomorrow through the Fourth on Saturday. Highs will ease down into the mid to upper 80s tomorrow and Friday with highs close to 90 Saturday.

Showers and storms will highlight the forecast for Sunday and Monday as a pretty strong disturbance rolls through. Behind that disturbance, it looks like another push of cooler and drier air will arrive for Tuesday and Wednesday. So, there are still no signs of any really oppressive heat here in the Carolinas for the next week to ten days.

Excellent summer weather...

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video.

What a fantastic morning we had today! Low temps were down in the upper 50s to lower 60s under a clear sky.

Again today, we will get to enjoy very low levels of humidity with highs in the upper 80s to around 90. Look for lots of sun all day.

Tomorrow's forecast is a tad tricky. I am still going with a dry forecast, but some computer modeling is indicating a chance of a few afternoon storms. I think that chance is low at the moment, but we will take a deeper look at that in the morning. Highs tomorrow should again be relatively close to 90 around the Piedmont.

Thursday and Friday look warm and dry with highs in the upper 80s to near 90 under a partly cloudy sky.

For Independence Day on Saturday, I still think most will remain dry. However, in the southern Piedmont down into South Carolina, a few isolated PM storms can't be ruled out with highs in the lower 90s.

A potent disturbance rolls through Sunday and will bring us a chance of rain and a few storms, and that shower chance could linger into Monday. Behind that system, it looks like we could see another push of cooler, drier air.

So, there remain no signs of any oppressive heat around here for the next ten days or so.

Lower humidity settling in.....

>> Monday, June 29, 2009

Above is today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video.

After a hot and muggy weekend, we will enjoy slightly lower temperatures and much lower levels of humidity today. Most Piedmont highs will top out in the upper 80s to around 90 with lots of sunshine.

Tomorrow looks fantastic with lots of sunshine and highs in the mid to upper 80s and again, low levels of humidity.

Not much change through the work week with highs warming toward the lowers 90s by Friday. Rain chances will remain quite low until probably Sunday over the weekend. So at this point, it looks like most Independence Day activities will be OK.
