New Year's Day...

>> Thursday, January 01, 2009

Thanks so much to all of you for stopping by my little spot on the internet. I appreciate each and every one of you, and I am excited about embarking into the new year.

And thank you for watching us all on News 14 Carolina. It is a tremendous privilege to serve you, and we look forward to a great 2009.

In terms of the weather, I still think a little light precip will fall around the region tomorrow, but light is the key word. It just doesn't look too significant right now. And, there continues to be a lot of volatility in the modeling for next week's system. Right now, the models are showing rain, and that is probably the most likely scenario. However, I will not give up on wintry weather possibilities just yet. It is all a matter of timing, and until that gets resolved, I wouldn't rule out anything.

I think the Gfs is of the devil to the snow lovers in the piedmont. It plays with your mind for a few days then POOF its gone... LOL

Happy New Year

Aww, poo. I'm starting to give up hope on ANY winter precipitation in Charlotte anymore. All these stoms initially look like they're going to form in Mexico and come along the gulf, to our south (Classic snow path for us). BUT, they always want to go up north to the Great Lakes or up the mountains for the last 5 years! That's never going to bring us the cold air we need for snow. The GFS is a big tease! It hints at something then yoink! pulls it right from under us. Oh well.

Question Matt, why do we even look at the GFS anyway? It seems like a very unreliable model. The ECWEF or European seems to be the most accurate. It would seem they'd box that model and bring out a new one!

matt,
How is Jan. 10th looking for snow? I was looking at the Weather Channel and for now they are calling for rain/snow showers later during the evening? Is this something to watch?
HAPPY NEW YEAR to you and your family!!

Gerald....indeed. Drives you nuts at times.

Brad, the GFS is just another tool in the toolbox, as is the European. Each has its own strengths and weaknesses, and you learn those as you go along.

Brian, this time around, it is too far out to tell. We might try to see a clipper move through, but I don't see anything major to hang your hat on right now.
