The split in the rain on the radar is amazing. Not making for a happy meteorologist. Hopefully, this will fill in some later this evening as more dynamics kick into play, but the rain has done a great job of avoiding much of the western Piedmont so far....

Soaking rain on the way...

Today's edition of the Carolina Weather Video is above. Give the video a watch....lots on our plate in the upcoming weather.

Clouds are on the increase today and tonight as our next system organizes off to our southwest. Highs today will be in the upper 50s to lower 60s.

Rain will develop into the Piedmont tomorrow, and it will be a soaking, chilly rain. Temps will likely be in the mid 50s at best as the rain arrives, and some spots could drop into the upper 40s as the rain spreads in.

The rain will continue tomorrow night and end Saturday. Before all is said and done, many spots will likely have seen over an inch of rain....and possibly two inches of rain.

Sunday and Monday look pretty quiet, but we will see a big blast of arctic air move in here Tuesday. Highs could struggle to make the lower 50s Tuesday and Wednesday in some Piedmont locations, and I fully expect the first widespread freeze of the season if not Wednesday morning, then certainly Thursday morning.

We had a great time up in the mountains yesterday. We made it to The Blowing Rock and then went down the Blue Ridge Parkway to Grandfather Mountain. There was still some very nice color to see, but we were up there right as the cold front was coming through. Unfortunately, that meant a lot of clouds, and the colors did not look as vibrant as they otherwise would have with full sunshine. It was also very breezy as the cold front came through....the summit of Grandfather Mountain was closed due to winds.

We really did have a great time. The kids love going up to the mountains, and so do I!

Around here, chilly air has pushed back in, and it is going to be here for a while. Tonight, good frost chances will again be with us with lows well down into the 30s.

Our next system will roll in Friday. This will be a classic cold air damming set up with a retreating high pressure leaving New England and a low pressure moving from the Gulf coast up to the eastern Carolinas. If this were December or January, we would be speculating about how much ice or snow we would be seeing. However, only rain this time around in the Piedmont. And I think we will see some very good rain amounts as well.

And, I still like the chances of a big push of cold air next week....probably arriving here around Tuesday. Looks like we will have the chance for a widespread freeze by Wednesday morning. Stay tuned....

Frost on the Pumpkin...

Brrr.....very chilly out there this morning. As I am typing this, Charlotte is sitting at 33 degrees, and Reidsville has been below the freezing mark at times. Obviously, this is our coldest morning so far this season.

This cold airmass will modify a bit over the next 36 hours....highs today will be in the upper 60s to lower 70s with low to maybe mid 70s tomorrow. Lows tonight will mainly be in the 40s.

However, another cold front will drop through later tomorrow, and that will push another shot of colder air in here for Wednesday and much of the rest of the week. Lows will likely dip into the 30s again on Wednesday and Thursday morning in many spots, and some highs will again be in the 50s.

It is looking like a pretty significant storm system will roll through the eastern US Friday and Saturday. For us, that means some good rain chances and possibly some breezy conditions.

I am also getting the idea that a big push of cold air will try to invade the eastern US next week....so, some pretty chilly air might very well be in place for the days leading up to Halloween.

Some questions are coming in about my thoughts for the upcoming Winter....right now, it is a work in progress, but hopefully I will give you some ideas in the coming days.

I will be out of the office tomorrow.....taking an off day to take the family up to the North Carolina mountains and check out the Fall foliage. Weather should be nice....

I am still trying to get the software license nailed down to cut my videos....so, at least for another couple of days, still no Carolina Weather Video.
