I have mentioned in this space before that I really enjoy days like today. There is just something about a cool, rainy day that I enjoy. Now, I love sunny and 72 degrees just as much as the next guy, but days like this have a nice "feel" to me.

It is indeed cool and rainy. Most spots have seen rain all day and will continue to see rain into the night. Temps are hovering in the low to mid 60s.

Drier air pushes in tomorrow, and that will set the stage for beautiful weekend weather.

Down the road a bit, I am beginning to get the idea that we might see a pretty decent shot of cooler air in here by the end of next week. Seeing the 0 degree line at 850mb dipping into the Ohio Valley on some modeling gets me fired up. Bring on cold weather!

However, I am ready to enjoy the fall season. I love observing the fall foliage, and I will make my annual "fall foliage trip" up to the mountains for a day or two next month. I will probably drive up there a couple of times next month if time allows. I absolutely love it.

Tropics are active. Gordon could become a major hurricane over the next 24 hours, but it will continue to re-curve in the Atlantic and only threaten shipping lanes. TD 8 is rather broad and disorganized, but it should consolidate and strengthen through the weekend. That system has re-curve written all over it, but I won't write it off yet just in case. And what is left of Florence is battering the Canadian maritimes this afternoon....still a lot of punch left with that system.

Stay dry, slow it down on the roadways, and have a great evening...

I love September. People are wearing jackets and sweaters already. I bought a pumpkin this week!

I think the active "trough train" is going to keep the east coast safe from Helene. Hopefully.

For the first time since early January, CLT is now above normal in annual precipitation. GSO and RDU have been above normal for some time now.
